Join our community and experience Emerson College! This position is based in Los Angeles, CA at the Emerson College Los Angeles Program (ELA). The Residence Directors (RDs) provide administrative and collaborative support for the general operations of ELA Housing and Residence Life, serve as conduct officers for the college, and assist with the supervision of Resident Assistants and Front Desk Assistants/Tour Guides. As a live-in position, the employees will also participate in an on-call duty rotation and respond to emergency and non-crisis situations. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES Assists with the management of the day-to-day operations of the department, development and implementation of annual goals, training initiatives, and objectives. Provides 24-hour on-call coverage on a rotating basis and respond to student crises when appropriate. Complete all documentation and follow up in a timely manner. Maintain documentation related to follow up with students of concern. Supports and implements building and campus-wide residential programming and educational efforts. Reviews, evaluates, and revises student and administrative departmental policies and procedures. Collaborates with other professional staff to support the administrative functions of the ELA ResLife office including but not limited to: answer questions via phone and email, maintaining comprehensive manuals including training documents, resource and referral guides, standard procedures and expectations, etc. Coordinates and implements professional development and training activities for student and professional staff. Collaborate with Academic Affairs and other administrative units in the planning, development and direction of residential academic initiatives. Build effective assessment tools to determine learning outcomes for the residential experience. Empowers all residential students to excel academically by providing opportunities to enhance academic and professional success, sense of belonging, engagement with faculty, overall wellness, and community citizenship and leadership. Assists in the planning and development of trainings for student employees. Facilitate assigned trainings during training weeks and periodically throughout the semester. Assists with the student conduct process, including conducting judicial investigations, hearings and adjudication of lower level conduct cases. Provides advice, support, assistance and referrals to resident students regarding personal, academic, and residence concerns. Actively develop professional, positive relationships with residents to support them in the development of their personal, social, and intellectual growth. Provides assistance and appropriate referrals for community related concerns by responding to psychological, medical, Title IX and maintenance emergencies by acting within established protocol. Supports ResLife social media FAQ schedule and respond to student questions within ELA social media groups and email account. Prepares and follows-up on reports including incident reports, maintenance reports, and annual reports. Serve on institutional committees; attend departmental and area staff meetings and trainings. Oversees and manages programming budgets affiliated with their area. Help facilitate opening and closing of the building each semester Available to work evenings and weekends as needed. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned. COLLATERAL ASSIGNMENTS MAY INCLUDE: Housing Operations and Student Employment Coordinator: Assist with preparing and implementing housing operations such as room placements, maintaining key inventory, tracking work orders and addressing facilities concerns, opening and closing procedures, and any associated paperwork. Develop, implement, and oversee the recruitment, selection, training and supervision of student Front Desk Assistants/Tour Guides. Residence Life and Community Building: Develop, implement, and oversee the recruitment, selection, training and supervision of student RA staff. Assess monthly RA programming and ensure publicity in newsletter produced by Student Engagement Coordinator. Participate in the ELA student conduct process, including creating and updating training materials and manuals, maintaining accurate records of incidents from duty logs and other reports, updating policy-related documents and communication, and serving as a conduct officer for the campus. QUALIFICATIONS – Qualifications are deemed required or preferred and represent what is needed to effectively perform job. Master’s Degree in College Student Personnel, Student Affairs, Psychology, or a related field required Minimum of 1 year of full-time experience working with college students required CPR, First Aid and AED certification preferred. Previous work experience (or student employment) in Residence Life or Housing. Previous work experience in a live-in position in a student residence hall setting. Student-centered approach.
