JOB SUMMARY


The Assistant Controller will assist in directing the financial operations of the organization including budgeting, planning, investing, and all other financially related matters.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists in maintaining a documented system of accounting policies and procedures and a system of controls over accounting transactions to minimize risk.
  • Assists in the production of financial reports; ensures that the reported results comply with accepted accounting principles and standards.
  • Assists in recommending benchmarks used to measure company performance.
  • Assists in producing the annual budgets, forecasting, and financial planning; reports significant budget differentials to leadership.
  • Assists in providing financial analysis, in the areas of capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations.
  • Assists in working with external auditors and providing necessary information for the annual audit.
  • Assists in oversight of the accounts payable/receivable, and payroll, identifying discrepancies and reconciling all accounts.
  • Supporting the department with all aspects of the general ledger.
  • Assists in ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal requirements.
  • Assists in filing the quarterly and annual reports with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
  • Assists controller with a variety of tasks and special projects as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Maintains regular and timely attendance as set forth by company guidelines.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field is required.
  • Possession of a professional certification, such as CPA, CFM, CMA is preferred.
  • At minimum 5 years of proven experience as an Accountant, Assistant Controller, or similar position is required.
  • Exceptional understanding GAAP and relevant financial accounting regulations.
  • Highly Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite, SharePoint, Adobe, and Accounting Software are required.
  • Exceptional organization skills, effective in time management, effective at multi-tasking and be extremely detail oriented.
  • Exceptional critical thinking and analytical skills.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Trains new staff in the department.
  • In the Controllers absence oversees the daily workflow of the department.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must reside within the company's geographical footprint, which is in the Rockford Illinois or surrounding area.
  • Possess and maintain valid driver's license.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.

  • Thorough knowledge of accounting systems to meet regulations.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, SharePoint, Adobe, and Accounting Software or related software.
  • Ability to interpret and adhere to policies & procedures in accordance with company practices.
  • Analyze, interpret, and communicate complex issues and recommendations.
  • Regular attendance with flexibility of working any shift in a 24/7 operation.
  • Ability to clear a fingerprint based criminal history check as necessary for FAA, TSA, and Port Authority.
  • Use of basic office equipment (e.g., photocopier, voice mail, 'fax' machine, calculator, multiple line telephones, computers, etc.).
  • Represent the organization in a professional and positive manner both internally and externally.
