JOB DESCRIPTION: Acts as preceptor for new staff and students. Provides clinical guidance to radiologic students and ancillary staff. Serves as coordinator in Level IV's absence. Serves as resource for staff and students. Troubleshoots equipment problems and advises supervisor of equipment malfunctions. Provides quality care to patients receiving diagnostic and invasive procedure. Provides more complex technical care to ensure high quality images. Provides assistance to staff in recognizing and managing more involved radiologic procedure. Safely operates radiologic equipment to ensure high quality images. Communicates patient needs and responses, and fosters communication among healthcare team. Demonstrates a complete knowledge of anatomy physiology. Takes precautions to minimize staff and patient exposure to radiation. Documents all aspects of patient care accurately and completely. Cleans equipment and ensures procedure rooms are stocked. Completes procedures in Radiology Information System to ensure billing of exams/procedure. Responsible for completing all aspects of patient care documentation following the established charting procedure. Assists with revisions of patient and operational forms. Explains procedures to patients to reduce their anxiety and to obtain patient cooperation. Involves patient/family in the education of their imaging procedures. Assists with development of education materials. Anticipates potential patient crisis through continual evaluation of patients having radiologic procedures. Effectively handles emergency situations. Ensures that patients have been prepared for procedures. Effectively communicates with patients, family and other health care team members. Keeps patient and families abreast of patient's progress. Communicates and works well with staff and promotes team approach. Participates in departmental inservices. Maintain knowledge of current trends, practices, and developments. Renews ARRT licensure and updates certification to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation on a bi-annual basis. Ensures that procedure rooms are stocked. Works with supervisory staff to ensure the appropriate supplies are available. Follows all safety requirements of the hospital and department. Practices radiation protection to minimize patient and staff's exposure to radiation. May participate on safety committee. Participates in performance improvement data collection. Demonstrates knowledge of and may participate in the departmental performance improvement team. Assists in identifying staff education needs. May serve on education committee. Performs related responsibilities as required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Must be a graduate of an accredited school of Radiologic Technology and at a minimum be registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or be registry eligible. If registry eligible they must complete and pass the registry within one (1) year of employment. Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification in accordance with the American Heart Association required. Must have a minimum of two (2) years experience. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (Medium): 20-50 lbs; 0-33% of the work day (occasionally); 11-25 lbs, 34-66% of the workday (frequently); 01-10 lbs, 67-100% of the workday (constantly); Lifting 50 lbs max; Carrying of objects up to 25 lbs; Occasional to frequent standing & walking, Occasional sitting, Close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing), Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks. ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: Factors affecting environment conditions may vary depending on the assigned work area and tasks. Environmental exposures include, but are not limited to: Blood-borne pathogen exposure Bio-hazardous waste Chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors Communicable diseases Electrical shock, Floor Surfaces, Hot/Cold Temperatures, Indoor/Outdoor conditions, Latex, Lighting, Patient care/handling injuries, Radiation, Shift work, Travel may be required.
