Job Summary: The Production Medical Underwriter reviews proposals for coverages and assess risk related to qualifying groups for health insurance. The Production Medical Underwriter gains exposure of some complex tasks within the job function. Roles and Responsibilities Determine the completeness of a prospective client quote submission and work with multiple parties to ensure proper documentation for risk analysis is received. Effectively communicate with internal staff, producer channels, or third-party administrators regarding completeness of submissions, underwriting process and rating. Organize and prioritize proposals and effectively communicates information needs with the emphasis on building relationship by setting reasonable expectations and obtaining information essential to the evaluation of the risks. Evaluate, price, and propose rate on stop-loss self-funded group medical plans, including specific and aggregate benefits. Operate within underwriting guidelines and profitability targets. Calculate renewal rates for complex groups based on thorough analysis of the group's experience, industry, location, size, and demographic nature. Coordinate with other departments to ensure the accuracy and consistency of account reporting. Skills Must be detail oriented, well organized and the ability to manage a high-volume workload with competing demands. Appropriate use of the underwriting tools and company record keeping is essential. Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office products. Professional phone and writing skills with experience in customer facing positions. Strong math, communication, negotiation, and analytical skills required. Demonstrates independent decision making while recognizing and accounting for anticipated consequences. Manages desk responsibilities, including meeting quoting deadlines, conducting roundtables, obtaining appropriate sign offs for authority. Openness to new ways of thinking and acquiring new skills to retain a competitive advantage. Critical thinking and the ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems. Documenting/recording information such as entering, transcribing, recording, storing, or maintaining information in written or electronic form. Demonstrates a continuous improvement mindset. Work Environment This job operates in a clerical office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers and filing cabinets. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time position. Hours of work are Monday through Friday for a total of 40 hours per week.
