General Summary: The Business Analyst I will play a crucial role in analyzing and improving the processes and systems involved in evaluating underwriting applications and managing policies. The Business Analyst I will act as a bridge between the technical and business sides of the organization. Their responsibilities typically include providing support between Underwriting Managers, Information Technology (IT) and Vendors to assist in creating requirements, testing and training for a new system implementation.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Act as liaison between Underwriting, IT and development vendors for requirements and testing
- Attend daily stand-up calls and other meetings as required
- Support user testing initiatives working with Underwriting business leads
- Collaborate with other business units to ensure consistency throughout the system implementation project
- Prepare testing acceptance criteria throughout the project
- Open Jira tickets and track bugs, defects and backlog items as necessary
- Evaluate business requirements to identify potential process improvement activities for Underwriting
- Provide support to Underwriting for the new system
- Assist Origami Underwriting project lead with coordinating training and testing with Underwriting Subject Matter Experts (SME) as Origami project implementation sprints dictate
- Provide system demos to Underwriting other business units
- Configure areas of the system as necessary
- Other duties as assigned
Education & Qualifications:
- BA or BS in business or technical field
- 1 – 3 years of P&C business experience required
- Proficient in Microsoft Suite required
- Jira/Confluence experience a plus
- Agile project experience (Sprints, User Stories) a plus
- Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to clearly interpret and relay information in a professional manner
- Express ideas clearly and provide an easy understanding of complex issues
- Strong project planning and management skills required
- Strong ability to gather, organize, analyze and present data
- Strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple tasks while meeting deadlines
- Understanding of underwriting, information technology, insurance software and reporting systems. Proven record of complex problem solving and decision making
