EMR is a global leader in metal recycling with a heritage dating back to the 1950’s. We have grown from a single UK business and now have over 130 operational sites in the UK, Germany, the Netherlands and the US, employing over 3,500 people. We recycle around 10 million tons of waste annually, made up of everything from drink cans to aircraft carriers, which are re-used, recycled and recovered into more than 200 grades of new, sustainable raw materials. EMR is currently growing and is currently searching for Scale Operator to join our team.
The Scale Operator is a great position in our workforce for the opportunity of upward mobility. In this position you will learn everything you need to know about purchasing ferrous and non-ferrous materials, (differentiating between the types of metals that are received). This is crucial for EMR’s future leaders, as it allows the necessary skill sets that are needed for those who want to advance within the company across our many locations. Every Current Depot Manager at EMR started out as a Scale Operator, and those who want to continue to grow have become our Operation/Commercial Managers.
What you will be responsible for…
- Customer engagement; providing quality customer experiences, addressing customer questions and concerns effectively, having management assistance when necessary.
- Weigh and purchase inbound scrap, obtaining required information from customers for all transactions.
- Learning different skills such as equipment operation, weigh master operations etc…
- Properly follow company and OSHA safety practices and procedures.
- Any task assigned by management.
Your background and skills will include…
- Ability to work in a fast paced, non-stop outdoor environment.
- Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions, working independently.
- Ability to multitask.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate efficiently
- Ability to use safety equipment, such as fire extinguishers
- Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency
- Ability to be flexible to work off hours, including weekends, in an industrial environment which includes being outdoors in all weather conditions.

Work is generally performed outdoors in all-weather elements such as hot, cold, rain, or snow and personal protective equipment is required. Working hours may vary and evening or weekend work may be required. You may be required to lift and carry up to 40lbs.
