**Job Summary:**
The Patient Sitter for Foster Care Children is a compassionate and dedicated professional responsible for ensuring the safety, well-being, and emotional support of foster care children in a healthcare setting. The Patient Sitter provides continuous, direct supervision and engages in therapeutic activities to create a nurturing environment for children under their care.
**Duties:**
- Monitor and ensure the safety of foster care children at all times.
- Prevent self-harm or harm to others by providing constant supervision.
- Accompany children during transfers within the facility to ensure their safety and security.
- Provide emotional support and companionship to foster care children.
- Engage in therapeutic activities that promote emotional well-being and reduce anxiety.
- Establish and maintain a nurturing, positive, and supportive relationship with the children.
- Use positive reinforcement techniques to encourage appropriate behavior.
- Recognize and respond to behavioral triggers and de-escalate potentially challenging situations.
- Communicate effectively with healthcare team members, including nurses, doctors, and social workers.
- Report any changes in the child’s behavior, mood, or physical condition promptly.
- Ensure the child’s living area is clean, organized, and conducive to their comfort and safety.
- Facilitate educational and recreational activities that support the child’s developmental needs.
- Encourage participation in activities that enhance social, cognitive, and physical development.
- Respect and accommodate the cultural, religious, and individual preferences of each child.
- Demonstrate cultural competence and sensitivity in interactions with children from diverse backgrounds.
- Adhere to all facility policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Maintain confidentiality of the child’s personal and medical information in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
**Experience:**
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous experience working with children, preferably in a healthcare or foster care setting.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong observational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to remain calm and composed in stressful situations.
- Background check and drug screening required.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Understanding of HIPAA regulations and patient confidentiality
