Our Assistant Principal is primarily responsible for assisting the Principal in the day-to-day oversight of the program’s educational, behavioral, and administrative functions.

We serve students ages 5 to 22 who need extra support to find success in the classroom and community in locations across Virginia.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING, REQUIREMENTS AND PREREQUISITES
Graduate degree from accredited college or university.
Thorough knowledge of general and special education principles, practices, and procedures
Thorough knowledge of the principles and methodology of effective teaching and administration
Thorough knowledge of school division rules, regulations, and procedures
Ability to establish and maintain standards of behavior
Demonstrated leadership qualities and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students, staff, administrators, and parents in a private special education day school environment
Ability to utilize MS Office and learn a variety of software
Ability to complete CPR and First Aid Training
Possess a Valid Virginia Drivers’ License and provide proof of insurance
Possess a satisfactory driving record in compliance with Driver Requirement Policy
Ability to work an assigned work schedule
Basic computer skills and experience working with Microsoft Office is preferred
Ability to observe health and safety regulations
Performs related duties and other duties as assigned.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Functions: May be required to perform any of the following duties:
Provides daily leadership and oversight of daily operations in the school
Assists the Principal in establishing community and LEA partners that supports the mission of Roanoke Vocational
Assists the Principal in providing instructional leadership to include community based and transition schedules for students
Assists the Principal in the evaluation of staff and implements staff progressive discipline as appropriate
Provides classroom, cafeteria and other educational setting supports as needed. Assists the Lead Administrator in the overall administration of the school which includes, but is not limited to, interpreting, and enforcing school policies and regulations.
Assists in the supervision of all students and monitors halls, school grounds and student movement to ensure a safe and orderly environment
Help conduct safety inspections and safety drill practice activities
Coordinates and supervises the daily operation of the school’s security functions, behavior program and student discipline
Serves as the administrative designee in the absence of the Principal/Educational Coordinator or as assigned by the Principal/Educational Coordinator, Director or Assistant Director of Education
Assists in the preparation of student and staff handbooks, master schedule and staff case management
Creates student academic schedules
Insures the effective and timely reporting and communication related to student discipline
Assists in the creation and implementation of individualized behavior plans through collaboration with teachers, other school personnel and parents
Assists in the collection of student behavior data as assigned by the Lead School Administrator
Prepares for and attends meetings (e.g., FAPT, IEP, etc.), court hearings or other community agency meetings as necessary for the purposes of student support
Assists in coordinating open houses, parent-teacher meetings, transportation, and other school-related events
Assists in implementing and monitoring IEP progress forms, eligibilities, and yearly IEP reviews
Provides assistance during the student referral process, including coordinating new student enrollment with the office staff and teachers
Serves as the LEA contact for student transportation
Monitors and communicates student attendance records to LEA
Assists the Lead Administrator with student database, including student billing input, processing and reports as assigned
Maintains a variety of files; Prepares periodic and special reports as required
Staff - Assists the Principal in implementing the orientation program for beginning teachers
Performs all other duties as assigned
Salary and Benefits:
Starting pay for a Principal – $65,000 annually, experience will be considered for increases.
