JOB PURPOSE:
The Senior Accountant is responsible for one or more of the areas of the general ledger and is expected to display considerable initiative in meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment, as well as identifying ways to improve and/or streamline processes within their areas of responsibility. They independently perform advanced level accounting analysis of their assigned areas of responsibility which is integral to ensure accuracy and timeliness of accounting activities and to maintain a sound financial control environment.
This position is one of several Senior Accountants reporting directly to the Accounting Manager. The ideal candidate is a highly detail-oriented self-starter who can work independently but who is also a good team-player. The ideal candidate should be able to pick things up quickly and be able to meet deadlines with multiple tasks.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform monthly close duties in a timely and accurate manner.
- Review and analyze month end financials to ensure accuracy.
- Produce routine and periodic reports as required/requested.
- Ensure proper document management and storage.
- Reconcile, prepare, and record bi-monthly payroll journal entries including 401(k) and insurances. Work with program directors to ensure proper allocation of staff.
- Handle monthly account reconciliations, including investigation and resolution of outstanding issues by working with multiple departments throughout the company.
- Assist with various treasury matters, preparing journal entries to record cash transactions, upload and approve payment files, maintaining credit card user profiles.
- Initiate financial analysis, capital expenditure monitoring, and revenue recognition according to GAAP.
- Perform general ledger accounting for organizational activities such as allocations, long-term debt, prepaids, accruals and other transactions.
- Assist team with any ad hoc research, clean-up, reporting projects.
- Work with various departments to streamline data flow and processes.
- Recommend and write procedures and policies to ensure continuous quality improvement of all financial processes.
- Assist Accounting Manager, Controller, Director of Finance and CFO as needed.
- Prepare and assist in annual audit and various monitoring reviews conducted by funders throughout the year.
- Maintain confidentiality of all payroll and accounting information and comply with internal control policies.
- Other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in Accounting required, CPA preferred.
EXPERIENCE: 3-5 years accounting experience; nonprofit accounting preferred, Sage Intacct experience a plus. 2-3 years in a customer service focused environment preferred.
ATTENDANCE: Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance at such level as is determined in the employer's sole discretion. This position has a hybrid work/office schedule.
LICENSES: Driver's License with clear record.
VEHICLE: Must have daily use of a vehicle without prior notice.
OTHER: Must be available and willing to travel to various locations and with such frequency as the business need dictates.
