Carrier Process Equipment Group (CPEG) is a Louisville-based company with multiple businesses specializing in material handling and processing equipment. We are looking for the BEST employees in the industry to help us grow our business at Carrier Vibrating Equipment in Louisville.
We are hiring Fitter/Welders for first and third shifts. Apply here or in person. **There is a $3 shift differential added for third shift.
Your daily responsibilities will include fabricating and welding using multiple processes, reading blueprints, and interpreting welding symbols and their uses.
First Shift Schedule: Monday through Thursday, 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Friday, 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. *When workloads are 40-hour weeks, the schedule changes to 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. With mandated 60-hour weeks, the schedule changes to 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Third Shift Schedule: Sunday through Wednesday, 6 p.m. to 4:30 a.m., and Thursday, 6 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. *When workloads are 40-hour weeks, the schedule changes to 6 p.m. to 2:30 a.m., Monday through Friday. - Saturday workdays are possible, however, this hasn't happened in several years. We also ask for volunteer workers first.
- Conduct all business in accordance with all company policies and safety practices.
- Report daily labor using computer data entry or other methods as defined by the company.
- Examine work pieces for defects and measure them for conformance with drawing specifications.
Shared Responsibilities
- May train and direct the work of other staff in the area.
- Assist and serve as back up to other departments as required.
- Travel as required from time to time.

- Able to follow supervisor instructions.
- Computer Skills to report labor and make shipping documents.
- Self motivated to work even when not prompted.
- Strive to improve aspects of the welder position.
- Must have problem solving abilities.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
Skills
Qualifications Level C Welder
- Entry level welder with at least (2) years experience .
- Able to weld using GMAW and GMAW-P processes.
- Basic blueprint reading skills are required.
- Knowledge of welding symbols, their use and meaning.
- Must have basic math skills. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide, as well as converting fractions to decimals.
- Must assist the load out and shipment of jobs.
- Must be able to rig, lift and load heavy objects onto trucks using forklifts and overhead cranes.
- Must be able to turn heavy objects with overhead cranes when welding.
- Must provide own tools as defined by the company.
- Must be able to communicate with other departments when information is missing from drawings or specification documents.
- Must be able to use adequate tools for job completion like, portable plasmas, oxy fuel torches, saws, drills, porta- powers, and other small tools.
- Must be able to operate forklift equipment.
- Able to perform basic grinding of steel and polishing of stainless steel to 80 grit finishes.
- Must be able to perform all types of surface preparation including sandblasting, shot blasting, bead blasting, etc.
- Must have a valid driver's license.
- Must be able to perform all job functions and be fully functioning to do those tasks.
- All qualifications of Welder C along with the added skills below.
- Minimum of (5) years welding/fitting experience.
- Fabrication skills to include complicated construction.
- Knowledge of bracing and stiffening to control shrinkage and distortion.
- Ability to perform GTAW welds.
- Ability to perform grinding/polishing of steel to achieve 120 grit finishes.
- Ability to perform basic wiring of motors, heat elements, etc.
- All qualification of Welder B along with the added skills below.
- Minimum (10) years welding/fitting experience.
- Fabrication skills to include welding, fitting and layout of complex weldments.
- Ability to use all technical shop equipment ( torque wrenches, bolt tensioners, multipliers, dosimeters, Amp probes, tachometer, stroke plates, etc. ).
- Constant need (60% to 100% of the time) to be on feet.
- Constant need (30% to 60% of the time) to perform the following physical activities:
- Bend/Stoop/Squat/Kneel-Perform routine welding, inspection and repairs; pick up debris.
- Climb Stairs or ladders-Routine duties require access off the floor.
- Push or Pull-Carts, wagons, or machines.
- Reach Above Shoulder- When welding or assembling equipment.
- Grasp/Grip/Turn of Hands-Hold and repair welding guns and equipment.
- Finger Dexterity-Pull triggers, repair small welding parts, etc.
- Work in Confined Spaces-Some work is in small or tight spaces.
- Lifting/Carrying (Supplies, Paint, Paper, Tape, etc.):
- Over 100 lbs. rare need (less than 1% of the time).
- 50 to 99 lbs. Occasional need (1% to 33% of the time).
- 25 to 49 lbs. Frequent need (33% to 66% of the time).
- 1 to 24 lbs. Constant need (66% to 100% of the time).
- Vision - Good vision is required for applying and checking quality and the repair of welds.
- Constant need (66% to 100% of the time) to apply, inspect and repair welds. Must be able to observe areas that need attention.
- Frequent need (33% to 66% of the time) to see things clearly beyond arms reach.
- Balance-Good balance is required to climb ladders, stairs, climb and walk on truck trailers, etc.
- Reaching- Position requires reaching approximately 3 foot in any direction while holding equipment weighing approximately 10 pounds.
- Taste/Smell-It is important that the welder be able to smell in case of a fire or release of other chemical in the area that may be of safety concern.
- Hearing-Good hearing is necessary due to sound of the welding equipment may mask or hide other sounds like emergency warnings or critical verbal commands of others in the area.
