Job Title: Collections Specialist
Immediate Supervisor Title: Billing Manager
Job Supervisory Responsibilities: None
General Summary: A nonexempt position responsible for responding to and following through on customer account balances, issues, and concerns in a timely and accurate manner.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
1. While adhering to company policies and procedures, demonstrates good customer service skills while initiating outbound calls and receiving inbound calls from customers.
2. Negotiates account resolution and accurately inputs and documents actions within the collection systems while maintaining company performance and productivity standards.
3. Maintains up-to-date customer contact information in the collections systems.
4. May be required to support other queues to facilitate teamwork in the department.
5. Escalates and assists other team members with calls as needed.
6. Serves as a resource/subject matter expert and may provide training to fellow team members
7. May be required to initiate external contact with customers or administrative work.
Qualifications
Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Some college is preferred.
Experience: Minimum three years of experience with collections, preferably in the health care industry.

Performance Requirements:
Knowledge:
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Knowledge of insurance industry and billing procedures.
- Knowledge of grammar, spelling, and punctuation for written and verbal correspondence.
- Knowledge of CPT and ICD10 codes.
Skills:
- Skill in using computer programs and applications.
- Skill in conflict resolution.
Abilities:
- Ability to handle multiple priorities at the same time.
- Ability to read, understand, and follow oral and written instruction.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely.
- Ability to establish effective working relationships with patients, employees, and the public.
- Ability to prevent, calm, or defuse irate callers and patients by working with them to identify concerns.
