Description
This position is responsible for reconstructing vehicle accidents, conducting failure analysis and other engineering investigations, primarily related to automotive systems and components. The job involves performing site inspections and documentation, evidence collection and examination, research, analysis, testing and reporting. The incumbent will market the company and self to obtain and/or maintain client base and build business. Plan, manage and coordinate activities for client projects to ensure that goals/objectives of projects are accomplished within prescribed timeframe and funding parameters by performing the following duties personally or with the assistance of other consulting/engineering staff.
- Prepares and reviews project proposals or plans to determine time frame, funding limitations, and procedures for accomplishing project, staffing requirements, and allotment of available resources to various phases of project.
- Makes determination to accept or decline potential new projects based on all variables.
- Confers with project staff to outline work plan and to assign duties, responsibilities, and scope of authority. Directs and coordinates activities of project personnel to ensure projects progress on schedule and within prescribed budgets.
- Work performed in this position may be highly varied but will likely include automotive systems, machinery and materials projects.
- Prepares technical, project-related reports for clients as required and also reviews such reports.
- Confers with project personnel to provide technical advice and to resolve problems.
- Conducts well-developed and well-prepared client presentations and technical conference presentations.
- Perform marketing and business development to identify potential clients and strategies to build client base.
- Contributes to peer-reviewed publications as needed

Must be able to occasionally travel for short-notice trips of variable duration

Qualifications
Experience:
- 2 years work experience, can include summer jobs and/or internships, preferable with consulting engineering firm
- Basic familiarity with hand and power tools
- Machine shop, machine tools, wood working tools
- Demonstrated familiarity with automotive system and components
- Data acquisition and instrumentation
- Experience with sUAS (FAA Part 107) preferred
Skills Required:
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Above average verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated proficiency in technical presentation and writing of technical reports
- Proficient with mathematical, CAD and office productivity software on multiple OS platforms
- Formal training in Automotive Accident Reconstruction
- Strong mechanical aptitude
Skills Preferred:
- Advanced proficiency with MATLAB, AutoCAD, Excel, and programming languages
- Significant knowledge of motor vehicle systems
- Experience with accident reconstruction software: PC-Crash, HVE
Education Requirements:
- BS in Mechanical Engineering, Applied Mechanics or Engineering Mechanics, etc. from an ABET accredited engineering school.
- MS or PhD Preferred
- Working toward FE status and capable of working towards PE license
