Ahoy! Want to sail the seven seas? Interested in renewable energy, autonomous vehicles, and outdoor robotics? Get involved in aQuatonomous: a new design team at Queen’s University focused on designing and building a solar-powered autonomous surface vessel (ASV/robotic boat) for the applied purpose of carrying out ecological and water research in harsh ocean environments. The 2024-2025 year will be aQuatonomous’s first year of complete operation, with the goal of attending the RoboNation RoboBoat competition in March.
aQuatonomous is hiring an Electrical Lead for the 2024-2025 academic year. This individual will spearhead the integration of solar energy, creation of a state-of-the-art sensor suite, and development of custom circuit boards while managing aQuatonomous’s electrical sub-team.
⚡We are looking for someone who:
- Has strong communication skills and time management skills.
- Is ready to take on a leadership role and learn alongside the electrical sub-team.
- Enjoys collaboratively tackling complex problems and is a patient debugger.
- Has an interest in outdoor robotics and autonomous vehicles.
🔋As the electrical lead, you will be responsible for:
- Equipping the boat with a solar-battery power system.
- Equipping the boat with a complete sensor suite, including custom PCBs.
- Creating a telemetry pipeline for the boat in collaboration with the autonomy team.
- Planning out sensor mounts with the mechanical team.
- Building out and manufacturing your system with your team.
- Helping your team with technical issues.
