ENSTAR - Gas Supply Analyst (Anchorage)

Job Description Position Summary The Gas Supply Analyst monitors gas purchases, accounting, and transportation activities on ENSTAR’s pipelines and is responsible for modeling future gas needs, purchase costs, and transportation fees. This position also supports gas supply negotiations, software development, gas control operations and inter-departmental processes. You Will Develop and maintain system for monitoring, reviewing, and analyzing gas demand. Analyze the relationship between weather patterns and gas demand, as well as modeling various supply options. Assist in the design, methods, and procedures for daily forecasting. Assist with ENSTAR’s modeling and forecasting gas demand, peak requirements, and storage as a part of the budgetary process. Develop efficient data capture and retrieval processes. Respond to internal and external inquiries regarding the data, analysis, and implications of specific figures. Develop and maintain system for monitoring, reviewing, and analyzing gas supply market. Monitor purchases and related gas transportation activities on ENSTAR’s pipelines. Develop system for communicating with Gas Control team to ensure compliance with current Gas Supply Agreements and applicable pipeline tariffs. Work with accounting department to ensure accurate allocations of gas purchases, appropriate pricing, and reconciliation of monthly transportation fees. Develop systems to optimize gas sourcing to minimize transportation expenses. Analyze future volumetric supply and daily deliverability. Assist in developing new markets affecting gas flexibility (gas storage expansion, traditional flexibility in supply contracts, and gas supply interruptions). Assist with negotiation of Gas Supply Agreements. Work with Engineering and Regulatory teams to support transportation agreements and interconnect agreements. Support gas forecasting modeling software Gas Day/Gas Hour and gas nominations systems Iliamna and Susitna. Assist with ENSTAR’s development of supply, storage, and transportation plans for long-term and short-term gas supply requirements. Follow Cook Inlet gas supply market news, pipeline tariffs. Rate cases and regulatory proceedings to keep the Gas Supply team informed. Provide training support to Gas Control team regarding the methods and procedures for daily gas forecasting and gas purchasing. Communicate with internal departments and external gas producers, pipeline companies, and other utilities to build strong business relationships. Support ENSTAR’s transportation customers. Support CRM PHMSA Compliance. Perform related duties as assigned. You Have Four-year degree in Project Management, Computer Science, Economics or related field required; Minimum of five years’ progressively responsible work experience, including substantial experience in forecasting and modeling is preferred. Knowledge of natural gas supply market and gas industry operation. Experience managing projects that require coordination of multiple departments including Information Technology and Operations teams. Must possess a valid Alaska Driver’s License and be qualified to operate a vehicle under the conditions of the ENSTAR’s Driving Policy. Ability to pass a background, past employment, credit, drug, and driving record screening. Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to effectively work with contractors, consultants, governmental agencies, and other departments/personnel to accomplish ENSTAR’s objectives. Proven organizational, quantitative, and analytical skills including the ability to evaluate data, compile statistics, and prepare reports, graphs, tables, and charts. Intermediate computer programming skills. Effective project management skills: planning, delegation, change management, leadership, conflict management, negotiation, and adaptability. Ability to use good judgment and make decisions. Analytical skills and ability to identify problems/potential problems and find solutions. Ability to communicate clearly in verbal and written form. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and ability to use/learn other technologies. Excellent organizational skills. Practical knowledge of gas utility operations. Ability to lead and motivate team members. Superior information management and follow-up skills. Good understanding of departmental policies and procedures and how they relate to ENSTAR’s goals. Must maintain a positive work atmosphere through effective interactions and communications with co-workers, customers and management. Must maintain a safe environment for co-workers, customers and the public through adherence to established safety standards and timely reporting of potential hazards.
