POSITION SUMMARY: 

Our Company is a manufacturing facility dependent on the machines working properly in order for production goals to stay on schedule. This role spends most of the time in the production area ensuring everything is performing optimally. The Back End Maintainer is primarily responsible for: rebuild, repair, or overhaul of all types of can manufacturing and other types of equipment. Modify, remove, install, adjust, synchronize, make, or repair equipment or parts as required. Must have a thorough knowledge of equipment and all support documentation such as manufacturer manuals. Individuals must have some applicable skills and be willing to learn skills necessary to support all the areas as better explained below.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 

  • Rebuild, repair, or overhaul all types of can manufacturing and other equipment.
  • Modify, remove, install, adjust, synchronize, make, or repair equipment or parts as required.
  • Make proper diagnosis, adjustment, repair, and set up of all assigned equipment.
  • Read and interpret computer information system reports, work from verbal or written instructions to determine need for and plan repair, overhaul, setup, and operation required on all types of manufacturing and other types of equipment.
  • Determine specifications for inspection of work and, using a full range of precision measuring and gauging tools, perform all required inspection before, during and after rebuild, repair, or overhaul.
  • Determine and make most efficient setup and operate machine tools taking into consideration such things as type of material, tolerances to be held, types of cutting tools, coolants, lubricants and machine tool speeds and feeds. Heat-treat and weld parts as required.
  • Exhibit a thorough knowledge of machines and mechanical principles involved in the repair and overhaul work including timing, synchronizing, and aligning the mechanical action so that, under power, the assemblies are mechanically coordinated
  • Set up and test can manufacturing and other equipment under power, testing for mechanical difficulties, tracing to their source, and correcting.
  • Operate, clear jams, lubricate and clean equipment to keep operational on an as needed basis
  • Participate, complete, and demonstrate proficiency in all associated OJT classroom and hands on training.
  • Participate in maintenance planning and execution.
  • Communicate to on coming/off going crews about process or equipment problems.
  • Participate in the coordination of down time with Production and support crews.
  • Monitors preventative maintenance compliance and measures these against established department goals.
  • Performs all necessary maintenance on production equipment, provides documentation for equipment records, special projects, and line support, as required.
  • Support the ISO system by assisting with editing and creating documentation as needed.
  • Assist Team Members by helping them become more knowledgeable about operation and methods.
  • Participate in training and development of other Team Members as necessary
  • Follow all GMP and HACCP guidelines as outlined
  • Perform other duties, as assigned




All Back End Maintainers provide support in operations including duties such as:

  • Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly
  • Accurately input data into computer systems to record production quantities through work order completions
  • Maintaining a tidy work environment and adhering to industry regulations
  • Obtain and maintain licenses, operator permits, or certifications as required
  • Handle time accounting and complete work order
  • Respond to warning signals and alarms that indicate issues have arisen, taking all necessary precautions to prevent accidents or injuries
  • Regulate or turn off machines in emergency situations and follow all instructions from supervisory staff quickly and precisely
  • Document plant processes and record production data
  • Follow all necessary regulations and appropriate Company procedures including quality policies, safety policies, OSHA, EPA, ASME, NEC, etc. standards
  • Collect hazardous or non-hazardous waste in correctly labeled barrels or other containers and transfer them to collection areas
  • Responsible for assisting others with operator duties, including training junior co-workers on the safe and efficient use of production machinery and equipment
  • Identify and report unsafe operations to Supervisor immediately
  • Safely operate dolly, pallet jack, and/or forklift in handling supplies and equipment
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Preferred – A Technical degree or the equivalent experience, defined as greater than 4 years of experience in a technical manufacturing continuous improvement environment
  • Required – High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
  • Familiar with personal protective equipment.
  • Mechanically inclined; familiar with hand tools.
  • Knowledge with proper handling procedures of chemicals/solvents.
  • Knowledge of material safety data sheets.
  • Knowledge of mechanical engineering designs
  • Ability to navigate computer-based programs.
  • Experience in manufacturing preferred
  • Overhauling maintenance operations with extensive troubleshooting skills
  • Experience maintaining motor controls, installations, maintenance, and repairs

 

 

GENERAL SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:

  • Aptitude in spatial reasoning, attention to detail, and skilled craftsmanship
  • Mechanical aptitude and experience (work with machines and general tooling)
  • Skilled in hand and power tool usage
  • Knowledge of SAP and inventory management a plus
  • Ability to operate heavy machinery
  • Ability to follow proper safety procedures
  • Use of precision measuring instruments
  • Ability to obtain certification and operate chemical equipment
  • Working knowledge of all automation standard practices
  • Proactive and takes ownership to resolve problems and issues
  • Ability to work with employees from many different cultures and backgrounds
  • Strong organizational and planning skills and housekeeping standards.
  • Ability to plan and execute major tasks.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written), including the ability to interact well with vendors, team members, staff, contractors, and others.
  • Willing to participate in meetings and work with all teams.
  • Demonstrate and initiate safe work practices.
  • Self-starter, capable of self-supervision and willing to accept a variety of assignments.
  • Ability to identify and implement process improvements or efficiencies leading to cost reductions.
  • Strives to enhance the overall knowledge and performance level of self and others.
  • A demonstrated experience where quick-thinking and problem solving plays a critical role
  • Preference will be given to qualified local candidates



SOFTWARE/COMPUTER SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • General knowledge of basic accessing information on the computer or entering data in a computer system

The physical demands and work environment described below represent the activities and surroundings of the position(s). Daily contact with other departmental personnel. Occasionally works in all weather conditions, extreme temperatures, around chemicals and chemical fumes/emissions, dusty & clean environments. Frequently works with electrical and mechanical hazards. When working with surplus and scrap materials, will frequently be required to work outside and/or in an unaired conditioned warehouse. Continuous use of vision, hearing and speech. Frequent sitting, standing, walking and occasional bending. Will lift, carry, pull / push, and reach for supplies and on occasion lifting (up to 50 lbs.) while performing various aspects of the job. Will need to climb stairs, climb ladders, lift and move objects, requires manual dexterity and repetitive use of keyboard/computer devices/power tools/machining equipment; Wear safety equipment, such as earplugs, goggles, and steel-toed shoes.

 

HOURS / SPECIAL CONDITIONS:  

Monday-Friday: 10 hour shifts. Present to fulfill job duties & meet operational demands/support; Schedule may vary depending on plant operational needs thus flexibility is required which may include long days, evenings, weekends, holidays and overtime; Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this position.
