Promotion: You must be a qualified employee of New York State and have had one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as:
Either A. Assistant Land Surveyor 2, or Assistant Land Surveyor 3;
Or B. Assistant Engineer (Civil/Transportation), Construction Specialist 1 (Transportation), Mapping Technician 3, Mapping Technologist 1, Principal Drafting Technician (Architectural), Principal Drafting Technician (General), Principal Drafting Technician (Structural), Principal Engineering Technician, Principal Engineering Technician (Soils), or Real Estate Specialist 1.
You must also have a New York State Land Surveyor’s License with current registration.
Reassignment - Currently in the title and an employee of DEC
or
Reinstatement Eligible - Previously held the title on a permanent competitive basis or held a title as indicated under the transfer eligible section on a permanent competitive basis.
or
Transfer Eligible - One year of permanent competitive service at Salary Grade 18 or higher and:
Eligible for transfer under Section 70.4: Must meet the open competitive minimum qualifications below;
55-b/55-c Candidates must meet the open competitive minimum qualifications below and include with their resume or application, a copy of the letter from Civil Service which indicates approval for the 55-b/55-c program.
Open competitive minimum qualifications (provided for 55b/c candidates and 70.4 transfer eligible): Possession of a New York State Land Surveyor's license and current registration.
Assists in the management of projects in Region 4; applies surveying, mathematics and legal principles with professional judgment to determine, establish or re-establish property and highway right-of-way boundaries; reviews, certifies, signs and seals boundary survey and appropriation maps; reviews surveys and appropriation maps prepared by consultant land surveyors; prepares written reports, giving professional opinion on property boundary lines and land titles; prepares affidavits for use in the legal defense of adverse land title claims; provides expert witness testimony in court; prepares requests for proposals; evaluates consultant qualifications and proposals; negotiates, prepares and manages consultant survey contracts.
Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain Must be able to work in remote areas. Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions. Travel may be required. Telecommuting may be available, will be discussed at interview.
