EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY

Job Title: Environmental Health Inspector

Department: Environmental Control

Reports To: Director of Environmental Control

Salary: 19.6125/hour, or greater depending on experience and qualifications

Summary: Monitors Jefferson County compliance with Federal, State and County laws, rules and regulations.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Job Functions: Takes water samples by motor vehicle and on foot; determines flood zones on new construction sites; completes
reports and maintains records and files as necessary; files violation notices, suits, charges with jurisdiction where violation occurs; patrols
Jefferson County to monitor compliance with Jefferson County Court Orders, State Laws, FDA food code, and FEMA rules, laws and
regulations; conducts restaurant health inspections, septic system installation inspections, Day Care, Hospital and Nursing Home health
inspections; performs stream monitoring; answer complaints on phone and in person and gives information. Regular and predictable
attendance is an essential function of this position.

Other Job Functions: Performs other job related duties as directed.

MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience: High school diploma or GED; six months experience in food service inspections and/or related environmental
work.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Some knowledge or ability to learn TCEQ rules and regulations; some knowledge of plumbing; ability to
work independently with minimal supervision; strong written and oral communications skills. Excellent interpersonal skills in dealing with the
public, vendors, contractors, and public officials at county and state levels.

Specialized Requirements: State certification in the inspection of installed septic systems or ability to obtain same within six (6) months of
hire date; valid Texas driver’s license with acceptable driving record.

WORK SITUATIONS/DEMANDS/EFFORT: Work requires accuracy; dealing with emergency situations; prioritizing; working alone and with
contractors, vendors, and officials at county and state levels; and flexibility as required.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Work inside is performed in an office setting. Outside work is performed in vehicle or on foot and may involve
exposure to heat, cold, noise, vibration, fumes, and other environmental conditions.

Must be available to work 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday thru Friday, overtime when necessary; subject to 24 hour call.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to write by hand, drive a vehicle, walk, climb, bend, and stoop.
