Responsibilities

Overview

The Environmental Defense Fund is working towards creating a vital earth for everyone, which will critically require a bend in the curve of global greenhouse gas emissions from fossil fuel production and use by 2030. This will necessitate an accelerated phaseout of existing oil and gas production and the prevention of investment in new fossil fuel projects that are misaligned with achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. In addition, an accelerated phaseout will still need to balance the potential consequences for people, energy, and the planet.

To support this goal EDF’s EDF Business Energy Transition Team engages with investors and industry towards accelerating the path towards an effective and orderly energy transition. The team leverages its partnerships and relationships to mobilize change across the industry, often drawing on cutting-edge science and rigorous economic and financial analysis.

The Energy Transition Manager will lead the development of a new flagship initiative to accelerate the phaseout and decarbonization of oil and gas by providing granular data and specific recommendations for decision-makers across industry, finance, and policy. In a multi-faceted role, the Manager will (1) manage and direct the initiative’s resources, including internal and external collaborators with global energy expertise in science, economics, policy, and data, (2) support the development of robust datasets and research methods, (3) communicate and engage with experts and stakeholders across the energy transition landscape, and (4) promote the adoption of the initiative’s outcomes with key audiences.

The Manager will play a key role in catalyzing EDF’s strategy to unlock the rapid phaseout and decarbonization of the oil and gas sector, building on the team’s efforts to collaborate with investors and industry to reduce global methane emissions. The initiative will be crucial to elevating EDF’s expertise and role in the energy transition by expanding its thought leadership, research and analysis, and influence.

In addition to the above responsibilities, the Manager will also play a supporting role in building a strategy to deliver on methane emissions reductions from the Asia Pacific oil and gas supply chain by leveraging EDF’s financial sector and corporate partnerships network and expertise.
