OPPORTUNITY

Environmental Incentives is seeking to hire a Communications Associate to join the Amazon Regional Environment Program (AREP) working in Washington, D.C.

Environmental Incentives is helping USAID's Amazon Regional Environment Program (AREP) communicate key findings, lessons, and impact about conservation and development challenges and progress across the Amazon region. Communications activities under this project will ensure USAID maximizes its information and knowledge assets, supports its partners and beneficiaries, enhances its efforts to improve effectiveness and impact, and becomes a recognized contributor to conservation efforts in the Amazon region.

In this role, the successful candidate will lead the development of high-quality communications products and contribute to the establishment of a client relationship, along with the AREP team, AREP implementing partners and sub-grantees to develop and disseminate engaging communications products that inform key audiences of successful projects, lessons learned, project/activity outcomes and USAID's technical leadership in advancing the Amazon's well-being.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Contributes Technical Expertise

  • Supports scoping, production, and review of a high volume and variety of communications deliverables and services, including blogs, newsletters, infographics and videos, social media content, and content for outreach campaigns aimed at diverse audiences.
  • Maintains project management tools and trackers for a large number of deliverables to keep project staff informed and aligned with review status and due dates.
  • Develops and facilitates adaptable communications strategies focused on clear and impactful messages with client teams, aligned with the AREP communications strategy key messages.

Manage Delivery of Service to Clients

  • Gains trust by meeting client communication style, consistently delivering quality service, anticipating needs, and solving problems.
  • Manages workflow processes, stewarding successful achievement of the team's vision for success, including interacting with AREP implementing partners and subgrantees.
  • Models EI culture, principles, and values in stewarding the client relationship.

Contribute Expertise to Special Initiatives

  • Participates in the design and implementation of work plans, budget, and staffing, aligned to client vision and EI quality standards.
  • Effectively contributes to the continuous improvement of work processes, inside AREP and across EI annual priorities topics.
  • Contributes to communication efforts and initiatives across EI, as needed and requested.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, international development, environmental science, natural resource conservation, or other related fields and 5 years of experience; or a Master's degree and 3 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in generating content independently, as well as in supporting product development across multiple staff, including technical staff.
  • Experience creating communications products that share technical findings with non-technical audiences.
  • Experience using and updating project management tools and trackers for deliverables.
  • Experience in client relationships, teams, and portfolios of work, including contributing to effective work processes and budgets.
  • Experience with event planning and facilitation of meetings, both in-person and virtual.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 7 years of experience working in the communications field.
  • Experience working with USAID and or in the international development field.
  • Professional working proficiency in Spanish. Professional working proficiency is defined as being:
    • Able to use the language effectively in most formal and informal written exchanges on practical, social and professional topics.
    • Able to speak the language with sufficient structural accuracy and vocabulary to participate effectively in most conversations on practical, social, and professional topics.
  • Professional proficiency in Portuguese is highly desirable.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong understanding of current issues related to conservation and development in the Amazon region.
  • Ability to be proactive in problem-solving with excellent listening skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and effectively communicate with multi-cultural and interdisciplinary teams.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States with no restrictions
  • Criminal background check required

BASE STATION AND COVID-19 POLICY

The position will be based in Washington, D.C. Environmental Incentives is implementing a hybrid work model in which employees will be required to work in the office approximately two days per week.

Proof of full vaccination against Covid-19 or legally authorized exemption is required for all Environmental Incentives employees working in the United States, regardless of office location or remote work. Selected candidates will be required to provide proof of full vaccination before beginning employment with Environmental Incentives. Full vaccination is defined as 2 weeks after the final dose of the requisite vaccination.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

The starting salary range for this position is $75,038 - $103,500 per year. Environmental Incentives also offers a competitive benefits package that includes:
