This position is in Region 6, Office of the Regional Administrator, Superfund and Emergency Management Division, Remedial Branch. About Region 6
This is an office-centered position--you must physically report to the duty station stated in this announcement on a regular basis. Partial work-from-home flexibilities may be authorized.
Qualifications:
In addition to the educational requirements, we are looking for at least one year of specialized experience related to this position as described below:
To qualify for the GS-09 level, you need to have at least one year of full-time experience equivalent to the GS-07 level defined as participating in cleanup efforts at sites involving toxic and/or hazardous waste.
- OR master’s or equivalent graduate degree; or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in the academic discipline as described below
- OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
To qualify for the GS-11 level, you need to have at least one year of full time experience equivalent to the GS-09 level defined as monitoring cleanup efforts at sites that involve toxic and hazardous waste.
- OR Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in the academic discipline as described above.
Your answers to the online assessment will be used to evaluate your competencies in the following areas:
- Knowledge of federal, state and local environmental regulations.
- Skill in evaluating hazardous waste site cleanup techniques and technologies.
- Knowledge of contract management.
- Knowledge of enforcement case development.
- Skill in written communication.
- Ability to conduct hazardous waste site characterization studies.
- Ability to establish goals and assess progress toward their achievement.
- Skill in oral communication.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Responsibilities:
At the entry level of this position, you will:
- Determine appropriate cleanup actions, methods, and tools for toxic and hazardous waste sites.
- Direct contractual work efforts in cases where EPA must assume the cleanup duties to assure that federal funds are properly expended and that contractors are utilized effectively and efficiently.
- Monitor responsible party effort during remedial cleanups to assure compliance with all requirements of applicable regulations.
- Participate in or monitor enforcement activities.
- Perform community relations activities within a public forum.

Salary : $61,957 - $97,446
