What are the responsibilities and job description for the Construction Quality Inspector position at EPCOR?

We are hiring a full time Construction Quality Inspector (working title will be Construction Inspector) will be accountable for the successful implementation of the Blue Sky Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs). Review materials to ASTM Requirements, which includes measuring of the components to ensure they are within the specifications tolerance. This includes working with contractors as well as outside agencies or consultants involved in inspections and testing.
What you’d be responsible for:
- Review shop drawings and submittals for conformance with project specifications by direct review, and by leveraging the knowledge and experience of others in the project team when necessary
- Read and interpret construction plans and specifications, construction quality assurance requirements, project documentations, and architectural and engineering blueprints to ensure conformance of work by contractors.
- Perform regular observations of construction projects with regard to quality, quantity of materials, installation methods used, conformity to specifications and recognized industry standards, owner's intent, requirements, and contract documents. As required, responsible for ensuring quality through testing and inspection at various stages of a project to determine and maintain quality and reliability;
- Document and report field observation discrepancies and testing failures to the Quality Manager. Aides in developing or approving acceptable methods of resolution to discrepancies.
- Ensure all Quality Control records are maintained in an orderly, easily accessible, up to date and secure manner
- Ensure policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for Quality Control are being followed for field work and are documented when required
- Ensure that materials, workmanship and construction are in full compliance with the contract plans and specifications, and applicable building codes
- Attend meetings including but not limited to: design, pre-construction, weekly/monthly construction progress, pre-installation, commissioning, punch list and closeout meetings.
- Enforce compliance with the requirements of permits or approvals granted for construction. Act’s as a contact for construction contractors and serves as the liaison between construction contractors and EPCOR’s project managers. Prepares project documentation in accordance with Company standards.
- Conduct criticality assessments to establish appropriate vendor, supplier and / or contractor quality surveillance levels;
- Work jointly with Quality Inspectors to resolve any project or internal quality related issues; Ensure non-conformances are reported and corrective actions are taken to prevent reoccurrence; Issue NCR’s and assists in providing proactive and preventive corrective actions
What’s required to be successful:
- Five (5) years minimum experience as an inspector or at a foreman or higher level on major construction projects. High school diploma or equivalent
- Must possess and maintain a valid Texas driver’s license with good driving record
- Ability to work 80% in the field, 20% in the office
- Strong safety focus – Extensive safety training and qualifications
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and quality management systems
- Knowledge of a wide range of construction materials, methods, and techniques
