We are hiring a Full-Time Permanent Communications Coordinator working out of Phoenix!

 

EPCOR’s award-winning Public Affairs team is evolving. As we take big steps to build our brand and push into new spaces, we’re looking for great people to help us drive EPCOR’s vision through best-in-class marketing, communications and leadership.

 

Reporting to the Director of Public Affairs, the Communications Coordinator is accountable for the planning, maintenance and successful day-to-day execution of integrated communications and strategies and creative solutions that enhance and protect EPCOR’s brand, reputation and business to customers, external stakeholders and the public. This position will touch all aspects of EPCOR’s communications, community outreach and marketing functions.

Our Voice

You are EPCOR’s face and voice on matters affecting our business, customers, and community. Your ability to explain situations and complex technical information in simple terms is stellar. This comes from a deep understanding of who we are, what we do and what we believe in. As a key team member, you will have opportunities to support creative communications and projects for other areas of EPCOR’s business and you’ll be part of the team responsible for emergency and on-call media / social media response.

Beyond EPCOR, you will play a key role in establishing EPCOR as a trusted community partner, collaborating with our Operations, Water Conservation, Rates & Regulatory, and Customer Care teams to bring our brand to the community.

 

Reporting to the Director, Public Affairs, the Communications Coordinator is accountable for but not limited to:

 

  • Working closely with senior-level team members and others within EPCOR’s Public & Government Affairs to execute communications plans and deliver associated tools and tactics.
  • Day-to-day maintenance of EPCOR USA's employee intranet, EPCORnet. This includes seeking out, writing and posting engaging stories that reflect business needs and adhere to a high editorial standard.
  • Day-to-day maintenance and monitoring of EPCOR USA’s social media channels and coordinating with Customer Care to respond to customers through these channels.
  • Developing and sourcing branded inventory and managing and fulfilling requests for branded items.
  • Managing and fulfilling requests related to EPCOR USA’s photo and video library.
  • Monitoring general email inboxes maintained by the Public Affairs department.
  • Coordinating content for and managing assigned employee communications channels, such as emails, digital displays and print materials.
  • Fulfilling community partnership benefits through event coordination, overseeing logistics and supporting volunteers.
  • Daily monitoring of relevant news sources.
  • Consulting with other communications counterparts to select and use appropriate communications channels to engage employees, customers and stakeholders. 
  • Writing and editing a wide variety of communications materials, including online content and promotional materials.
  • Supporting key employee initiatives/events and other projects and activities, as assigned. This could include aspects related to photography, video, web content and social media.
  • Developing and maintaining a centralized job coordination portal for Public Affairs and its internal clients.
  • Developing and delivering assigned presentations that effectively communicate key messages and appeal to broad audiences.
  • Demonstrating a high-performance, high-discipline, safe, accountable, focused, innovative and achievement-oriented, easy-to-do business with manner of working.

 

What’s required to be successful

  • Degree or demonstrated progress toward a degree from a post-secondary educational institution in one of the following fields – public relations, marketing, business/corporate communications or relevant experience
  • 1-3 years of progressive communications experience, preferably in a business or the utility industry
  • Creative, collaborative and results-driven approach with the ability to build relationships and work with employees at all levels of the organization
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills – articulate, quick to formulate responses, with the ability to develop, write and edit communications materials targeted at different audiences and using varied channels
  • Outstanding planning, project and event management, and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multi-faceted, complex projects under tight deadlines
  • Strong research, writing and editing skills, and superior attention to detail
  • Experience managing digital, design, video/photography and other vendors
  • Applies effective communications/public relations fundamentals to every project
  • Experience using Microsoft Office/365, SharePoint, Zoom and/or Teams (Adobe Creative Suite, PhotoShop and InDesign are a plus, too)
  • Experience with and understanding of the water industry considered a bonus
  • Experience using social media and other digital/engagement platforms an asset
  • Solid grasp of Spanish language desired but not required

 

 

Other important facts about this job

Jurisdiction: PROF

Hours of work: 80 hours biweekly

 

Note: This position is eligible for EPCOR’s hybrid work model Where We Work.

 

Based in the Phoenix office, with the ability to travel outside of and within the Phoenix-metro area as needed. There will be occasions where events or initiatives occur outside of normal business hours.

Some EPCOR positions require an enhanced level of background assessment, which is dictated by law. These positions require advanced criminal record checks that must also be conducted from time to time after commencement of employment.
  • A technical/practical assessment may be administered during the selection process and this exercise will be used as a part of the selection criterion.
