Summary:

The Special Services Advisory Team specialist acts as a liaison between administrative staff (Assistant Superintendent, MDIs, principals, etc.) and teachers to champion quality education for ALL students (SPED, RTI, ELL, 504, etc). He/She performs all special services duties required for this position for the Deputy Superintendent of the District and Assistant Superintendent of Special Programs under the direct supervision of the Special Education Director. This position requires extensive knowledge of SPED/IDEA/WIDA/504 procedures and policies, knowledge of District procedures and policies,the ability to assume responsibility, work effectively and independently under pressure and maintain confidentiality


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.


  • Conducts broad scale (district wide) training on differentiating instruction for special services students while maintaining rigor and meeting state-standards
  • Works alongside MDIs, principals and teachers to ensure that IEPs/LIEPs/504s/RTI are being used to guide teacher planning and individualized instruction
  • Assists the Assistant Superintendent of Special Services to implement any state or federally mandated expectations for Special Services (IDEA mandates, WIDA regulations, Corrective Action Plans, etc.)
  • Workshops with individual teachers on an “as needed” basis to troubleshoot and design an individualized curriculum plan for special program students that have special circumstances
  • Assists the Superintendent of Special Services in developing internal audits for instructional quality which could include: pacing, progress checks, parent surveys, etc.
  • Meets with MDIs and Principals to determine any support or training needed for teachers working with exceptional students
  • Responds, as needed, to a wide variety of calls, concerns, and complaints to resolve problems, providing information, resources and ideas and/or referring to appropriate personnel
  • Keeps up with Federal/State policy and legislative issues. Develops and conducts staff training on any new or changing policies, as needed
  • Maintain regular attendance (working remotely); adhere to District practice regarding attendance and leaves of absence.
  • Perform the above and other related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position with strict confidentiality.

Education and/or Experience

  • Current Oklahoma teaching certificate required
  • Master’s Degree preferred
  • Five years of virtual school district experience preferred

  • Outstanding skill using technology, Google and Microsoft Office suites appropriately and efficiently.

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.

Basic math skills required


Reasoning Ability

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.


Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Google applications, Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.Must have a high aptitude to learn new software as necessary for the business operations of the school.


Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Current driver's license and valid car insurance
  • Valid Oklahoma Teaching Certificate


Other Qualifications

  • Must be able to pass a state-mandated background check after a conditional offer of employment is made
  • Must have favorable employment references

The person in this position works remotely from their home. Meetings in public places and at Epic offices are also required. Travel to testing sites around the state will be required. Some overnight and extended stays during testing season may be required. The noise level is usually quiet to moderately loud (when students are present.)
