Summary

Equinix is looking for a highly effective Vice President of Platform and Engineering Services (PES). The VP PES will be tasked with the architect, build, operate and scale of the platform engineering services to support both of our key Data Center Services and Digital Services business units.

The VP will build, run and lead our platform product management and engineering teams encompassing the definition, design, and development of all technology platform modules that enable Equinix products and services.

As a key member of our technology leadership team, organize and drive integrated release planning and coordination and design across platform, software, analytics, and infrastructure teams. The role will ensure and drive alignment across all business-line stakeholders and prioritize the core platform capabilities to meet internal customers’ needs.

The VP will ensure that design and build quality, performance and reliability are instilled from day one, and inspire other team members to do the same.

Responsibilities

Technology Leadership

  • Build, coach and expand the Platform Engineering Services product management and engineering team to support business success
  • Drive teams and technology in support of the DS BU roadmap, aligned to company strategy and priority
  • Align as a Technology support for the Digital Services and Data Center Services business units
  • Work closely with key business line product teams as well as peer engineering leaders for roadmap and strategy to allow for continued growth and innovation
  • Be an internal and external evangelist of our Platform and technology vision and culture
  • Drive recruiting of a premier team at all levels, including forming deep partnerships with talent and HR teams

Cross functional collaboration

  • Engage closely with senior leaders of Product Management to understand the needs of business line, prioritize the roadmap, and provide timely delivery of those platform services
  • Work with multi-functional partners for adoption and also with cross-product engineering teams, shared engineering services, product management, user experience team to deeply understand the platform needs and vision to build the cross-product platform
  • Collaborate with a multi-functional team to define and manage cross-product platform non-functional matrix including service standards, SLAs for uptime & monitoring
  • Measure and improve the happiness of Engineering

Digital Services Leadership

  • Full functional and product capabilities of our products, ensuring internal customer trust (Service Level Objectives, security and performance) in our platform
  • Lead to meet business and technical targets with defined, transparent metrics
  • Implement technical and process improvements that are causal to most critical needs of business lines
  • Provides forward thinking thought leadership and guidance for creating extraordinary leadership teams
  • Participate and support a sense of psychological safety within the department

Innovation & continuous improvement

  • Drive quarterly OKRs around company and business line goals
  • Enable “you build it, you own it” mindset
  • Be accountable for product quality, velocity, security, and performance
  • Support process for incident management including quality control of RCAs and blameless culture
  • Develop repeatable processes for the development, deployment and lifecycle management of platform services
  • Build an elite high-performance team

Knowledge and experience

  • 15 years of experience in building and leading high-performing engineering teams of at least 100 people.
  • At least 5 years as a manager of managers (at director level).
  • Substantial experience of building enterprise-grade (secure, reliable) platform/product at scale
  • Proven experience in the successful delivery of customer-facing products, using public or private cloud technologies
  • Hands-on, full-breadth expertise in software engineering with the proven ability to implement highly scalable, integrated solutions and tools to solve real-world problems ideally in fundamental hardware and network infrastructure automation.
  • Demonstrable experience designing, developing, and running a cloud-based production system with high availability and reliability
  • Master’s degree preferably in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering
  • Ability to build strong relationships with peers, customers, and executives both within and outside the company
  • Passion for collaborating cross-functionally and cross-product to identify and own the development of the platform
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills able to bring clarity.
  • Self-driven with superior organizational and project management skills.
  • Prioritizes platform requirements, influence roadmap, and strategy, and driving impact with the rest of the business stakeholders
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills of teams across multiple geo-locations
  • Comfortable with ambiguity.

The targeted pay range for this position in the following location is / locations are:

  • San Francisco, CA / Bay Area: $209,000 to $375,000
  • California (Non-SF/Bay Area), Connecticut, Maryland, New York, New Jersey, Washington state: $193,000 to $365,000

Our pay ranges reflect the minimum and maximum target for new hire pay for the full-time position determined by role, level, and location. Individual pay is based on additional factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education and/or training.

This position may be offered in other locations. Your recruiter can share more about the specific pay range for your preferred location during the hiring process.

The targeted pay range listed reflects the base pay only and does not include bonus, equity, or benefits. Employees are eligible for bonus, and equity may be offered depending on the position.
