Responsibilities: Outage Coordination Engineer Level 2 & 3 Works under the direction of a senior level engineer or supervisor/manager to complete departmental goals and assignments Performs all work according to applicable rules and regulations including regulatory requirements and organization policies and procedures Learns how to use and develop software tools that enhance system reliability and departmental/organizational efficiencies Under direct supervision, participates in teams to obtain input, address comments and perform studies May provide on the job training or help oversee the work of other engineers/analysts May act as mentor and advisor to less experienced engineers/analysts Typically works independently on assignments and projects Participates in multifunctional teams to obtain input, address comments and perform studies Assists in developing tools, processes and procedures that enhance system reliability and departmental/organizational efficiencies Participates with other ERCOT departments to select and implement system changes as needed Level Senior - Above Serves as a technical Subject Matter Expert for the department Makes independent decisions except in instances of unusually complex engineering scenarios Works on the most complex engineering issues where analysis of situations requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Has the ability to resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways May coordinate, provide presentations and participate in stakeholder meetings with ERCOT personnel, Market Participants and industry Regulatory agencies Fosters and leverages strong working relationships with team and other internal departments Lends professional expertise to guide projects and help teammates assigned by manager Acts as mentor and adviser to less experienced engineers/analysts Leads multi-functional teams to obtain input, address comments and perform studies Demonstrates skills as an expert user of power system software applications and tools, spreadsheet programs, and database programs Maintains knowledge of emerging trends and industry best practices Lead Level: includes all of the above in addition to: Serves as the recognized technical expert for the department within and outside the organization Provides on-the-job training, mentoring or oversight of the work of other engineers/analysts as required Responds to executive and management inquiries and special reporting requests Collaborates with other ERCOT departments to select and implement system changes as needed Communicates results of analyses to appropriate stakeholders, including maintaining regular communication with the management team, providing relevant information to ensure compliance with all applicable requirements Examines, analyzes, and determines efficiency improvements for departmental and organizational processes and procedures Serves as the departmental representative on cross-functional teams, proactively providing technical, business, and policy guidance Serves as quality assurance and best practices resource within and outside of the department Networks with key contacts within and outside the electric utility industry Builds strong professional relationships both internally and externally. Leads the work of projects and audits as assigned by management May prepare reports and presentations to stakeholder bodies, the ERCOT Board of Directors and regulatory agencies, including preparing testimony Addendum Outage Coordination Engineer (all levels) Analyzes system conditions based upon applicable system information and plans Assists with the development, maintenance, and implementation of remedial action plans in conjunction with support operations engineers Approves or rejects outage requests based on analyses results Independently coordinates timing of maintenance outages Gathers and compiles accurate and up-to-date information and interprets data to be included in all analyses Conducts outage studies in support of control room operations as needed Prepares briefing information for control room personnel to keep them advised of transmission system conditions, generation limitations and outages, significant events, unplanned outages, and procedural changes Provides input at daily outage security meetings with control room personnel Coordinates with system operations to maximize availability of the ERCOT transmission system within reliability criteria Develops and delivers daily and monthly reports as required Determines appropriate conditions and timing for withdrawing previous approvals when reliability guidelines are violated due to contingencies or other changes in system conditions Monitors the performance of outage schedule updates and recommends alternatives and improvements Documents analyses information and entries of significant events to facilitate forecasting and future decision making Makes recommendations and verifies conclusions about contingency lists for security analyses Contributes changes to the existing twelve-month resource outage plans to determine how changes may affect ERCOT system reliability. Such changes may include resource outages not previously included in the plan Receives and processes outage requests and determines whether the requests contain all the required information for the relevant time frame and are in accordance with procedures and protocols EXPERIENCE Level 2 Engineer: Requires minimum 2 years related work experience in excess of degree requirements Level 3 Engineer: Requires minimum 3 years related work experience in excess of degree requirements Senior Engineer: Requires minimum 5 years related work experience in excess of degree requirements Lead Level Engineer: Requires minimum 8 years related work experience in excess of degree requirements. Requires minimum 8 years progressively responsible experience in electric power systems EDUCATION High School Diploma or GED (Required) Bachelor's Degree : Electrical Engineering or related field (Preferred) or a combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge to a major in such fields is required CERTIFICATION NERC Certification (Preferred) ERCOT System Operator (Preferred) WORK LOCATION: Employees may be required to be on-site at least twice per week, or more as needed based on business needs in Taylor, TX. Work arrangements are subject to business needs and are subject to change accordingly. Employees that are required on-site during tight grid conditions or emergency grid operations There is one position available. The level is open to a Level 2, Level 3, Senior Level or Lead engineering depending on the candidates qualifications that is identified.
