Operations Associate

In this role as the Operations Associate, you would be responsible for feed safety and meeting the food safety regulations of FSSC 22000 (ISO 22000/PAS 222) and the quality standards of ISO 9001.
 
Erie International Group (EIG) develops and manufactures natural animal food ingredients and innovative specialty chemicals from renewable raw materials.  Operating out of 25 acres in Northeast Ohio, our facility serves the North American Animal Nutrition, Specialty Chemical, and Oleochemical markets.  We are proud to be a “green” company, as we reuse and recycle materials like vegetable oils, cooking greases and animal fat that would otherwise end up in landfills, and turn them into new compounds and other usable products.
 
As an Operations Associate, the work may involve liquid and gas material transfer, process control, pressure and temperature control, sampling, process documentation, and other general assignments that address mechanical separation and materials transfer. Other tasks may include running hot oil, heating system, packaging operations, and general labor.
 
Core Functions
 
The core functions of an Operations Associate include, but are not limited to:
  • Understand operating processes, packaging systems as well as supply and transfer utilities operation.
  • Follow all SOPs in place.
  • Perform equipment start up, operation, and shut down.
  • Operate controllers, chillers, vacuum measurement gauges, heat exchangers, condensers, pumps, tempered water, re-boilers and related apparatus.
  • Transfer and process materials according to written and verbal instruction and troubleshoot this equipment type.
  • Interpret and adjust parameters according to distillate, tower bottoms, and residue analysis to meet specifications.
  • Record process data for verification and traceability.
  • Monitor equipment including flow, level, pressure and temperature.
  • Address and report leakage and spills.
  • Participate in equipment and physical plant cleaning. Clean process tanks, vacuum system, condensers and down legs according to written methods and schedule.
  • Report irregularities to supervisor; including faulty equipment, defective materials and unusual conditions.
  • Maintain work records; recommend improvements and assist with procedure and instruction updates.
  • Maintain access to safety equipment. Includes confined space cleanouts upon completion of confined space training.
  • Keep facilities and equipment in an orderly condition.
  • Maintain access to safety equipment.
  • Turn in labeled distillate and bottoms verification samples to laboratory at established intervals.
  • Understand hazards; follow safety and personal protective equipment standards, attend safety seminars.
  • Report accident or injury immediately. Intervene in unsafe situations; report unsafe conditions or equipment and continuously wear proper PPE.
  • Communicate during emergency -- distinguish alarms and audible signals, execute emergency shutdown.
  • Rotate shift or remain on-call under urgent circumstances. Climb, kneel, lift and tolerate inclement weather.
  • Responsible for maintaining cleanliness and housekeeping of production areas so that all walls, ceilings, doors, floors and work surfaces are clean and free of debris.
  • Ensure that all tools are in good working order and stored properly.
  • Responsible for completing daily cleaning check lists once these areas have been cleaned and checked.
 
Experience
  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent
