Position Description
Will be responsible for managing all Oracle and additional database infrastructure as required within the NOAA/GOES-R environment. These tasks will be performed in support of and in close coordination with other contracting resources and government employees. The information that follows provides a summary overview of the support tasks and activities that shall be performed by appropriately trained, experienced, and responsive contractor staff under this task order. Specific duties include:
- Provide Database Administration and server maintenance for the Database Management System (DBMS): This includes but is not limited to: Install new versions of DBMS software, application software, and other software related to DBMS administration, test and evaluate all DBMS software before moving into the production environment, configure hardware and software with the System Administrator, when required, monitor and administer DBMS security by adding and removing users, administrating quotas, auditing and checking for security problems.
- Perform maintenance functions, such as backup, recovery, tuning and performance monitoring and deploying new applications into the various environments. Secondary role supporting the performance of functions, such as, applying patches, interfacing with application vendors, and assisting the application administrators. As new versions of software are released, assist in the evaluation and recommended implementation. When approved, assist in installation and testing the upgrades, as required.
- Develop and enforce standards to ensure that all application design and code is produced with proper integrity, security, and performance. The Database Administrator will perform reviews on the design and code frequently to ensure the site standards are being adhered.
- Evaluate releases of Oracle and its tools, and third-party products to ensure that the infrastructure is running the products that are most appropriate. Planning is also performed by the Database Administrator, along with the application developers and System administrators, to ensure that any new product usage or release upgrade takes place with minimal impact.
- Provide technical support to application development teams.
- Provide after-hour support and weekend on-call may be required to support the NOAA/GOES-R baseline operations.
Required Skills
6 years of experience with database administration. Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Oracle RAC 19c/12g experience preferred
- Data Guard experience preferred
- Oracle Cloud Control OEM experience preferred
Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident and be able to pass a background investigation to obtain a security badge to enter the applicable government facility.
Education
BS in Computer Science, related degree, or equivalent.
Location
Work is to be completed on-site at the NOAA Satellite Operations Facility (NSOF) in Suitland, MD. Position may be eligible for flexible work arrangement.
