Position Description
ERT is seeking experienced software developers to support development on the FIM Capabilities Team at NOAA's Office of Water Prediction. The Senior Software Engineer will design and implement new systems and features, as well as modify and maintain existing systems for adaptation to business and/or technology changes. The senior software engineer engages directly with management, development teams, technical delivery teams, and testers to ensure the successful design, development, and delivery of technology-based solutions.

The salary range for this position is $130,000 - 150,000/year.

Additional tasks and capabilities of this person may include:
- Develop software solutions by studying information needs, conferring with users, studying systems flow, data usage, and work processes; investigating problem areas; and following the software development lifecycle.
- Determine operational feasibility by evaluating analysis, problem definition, requirements, solution development, and proposed solutions.
- Document and demonstrate solutions by developing documentation, flowcharts, layouts, diagrams, charts, code comments, and clear code.
- Prepare and install solutions by determining and designing system specifications, standards, and programming.
- Improve operations by conducting systems analysis and recommending changes in policies and procedures.
- Provide information by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing development and service issues.
- Support and develop software engineers by providing advice, coaching, and educational opportunities.
A minimum of 8 years of relevant experience leading to:
- Strong analytic capability and the ability to create innovative solutions.
- Ability to prioritize well, communicate clearly, have a consistent track record of delivery, and excellent software engineering skills.
- Must be able to work across multiple facets of the project and juggle multiple responsibilities at the same time.
- Prior experience on supporting FIM capabilities preferred.
Education
Bachelor's Degree in computer science, hydrology, hydraulics, or related field, or equivalent.
