Duties/Responsibilities:
- Work in concert with Design Engineers to sketch and conceptualize new products or improvements to existing products.
- Prepare competitive product research, analysis and review of existing designs.
- Research and monitor key design, fashion and color trends, typography, pop culture, etc, thus ensuring RAVE’s products continue our brand advantage in the marketplace.
- Create new product concept illustrations for sales presentations, preproduction advertisement, etc. Assist and coordinate with Sales/Marketing personnel.
- Provide aesthetic form & function aspect of NPD, design product graphics, product names/logos, product warning graphics, etc.
- Ergonomic form fit analysis optimization using human factors data.
- Create and send detailed drawings and graphics to factories and coordinate with ESC Shanghai team to obtain prototypes, preproduction samples and prepare for mass production.
- Communication and collaboration between RAVE Sports and overseas factories regarding design/graphics/packaging specs vs cost optimization.
- Manage and update product specifications and instruction manuals for current or new products as assigned.
- Manage a database of graphics and design files, maintaining organization between “conceptual/WIP” vs “final” designs.
- Maintain knowledge of industry standards in product design specs, product warnings, packaging graphics content, etc.
- Edit or render “custom” product artwork for key customers & retailers. Coordinate design approval from customers and coordinate w/ ESC SHG for mass production.
- Request and manage samples during product development phases.
- Participate in product testing and document refinements on prototype products. Finalize documentation and art files for mass production.
- Occasionally, design point of sale packaging and graphic content for POS packaging.
- Manage quality control on new and existing products as assigned.
- Provide technical illustrations for design documentation, manufacturing communication, owner’s manuals, patent drawings, etc.
- Product Management for assigned products.
- Some domestic and overseas travel as necessary.
Skills Required:
- Able to convey ideas through 2D sketching in profile and perspective views.
- 2D/3D Digital rendering of products for presentations.
- Fluent in Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat & others.
- Color correction and photo manipulation in Photoshop for product presentations.
- Ability to adapt design style to fit each unique product line & to reflect industry trends.
- Ability to communicate design ideas and specs to people in foreign countries (ie. China).
- Proficiency in 3D modeling and rendering using Rhino, Fusion 360, Alias, Solidworks, Keyshot and others.
- Proficient use of measuring instruments, including rulers, measuring tape, calipers, psi gauge and understanding of English vs Metric units of measure.
- Versed in Microsoft Suite products, Outlook, Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Fluent in the use of cloud platforms for uploading/downloading graphics to factories.
- Understanding of various manufacturing methods for applying graphics on products.
- Effective project management and self-disciplined in managing tasks towards schedules/deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) is a must.
- Able to lift more than 50lbs. and comfortable being in/on the water.
Education/Experience required:
- 4 yr degree in Industrial Design, Graphic Design or Product Development.
- 3 yrs minimum experience in hard/soft goods product design.
- Interest in outdoor recreation is a must.
