How You'll Support Our Mission
The Research Assistant will work with our Research and Performance Improvement Team to drive improved community health and safety through the power of data. At the core of this is the ESO Data Collaborative, a unique collection of de-identified Fire, EMS, Hospital, and Registry data contributed by our partners for the purposes of research and benchmarking. You'll help maintain and update this infrastructure to ensure we are able to answer questions that matter for our communities and you'll take part in research and performance improvement projects. Additionally, you will help manage an ongoing diverse portfolio of collaborative research projects, assist with vetting new proposals, and actively participate in peer-reviewed research and industry thought leadership documents.
This role will report to the Director of Clinical and Operational Research.
What You'll Be Doing - the day to day
The Research Assistant will execute the following tasks and activities:
- Assist in managing the research portfolio with external collaborators, to include coordinating meetings, onboarding new collaborators, and providing feedback on drafts.
- Maintain statistics related to the research portfolio.
- Review incoming research proposals and shepherd through review process.
- Assist in the analysis for research and industry-level thought leadership documents, such as the ESO Indices.
- Assist in the drafting of research proposals, publications, and presentation content.
- Assist in the maintenance and update of research data sets and related documentation (data dictionary, codebook, etc.)
- Assist in maintenance and update of research related pages from ESO.com (e.g. ESO Data and Research, COVID-19 Resource Center, etc.)
Who You Are - the essentials
- Bachelor's degree in statistics, engineering, or similar field.
- Analytic, detail-oriented thinker with strong communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to translate data and research effectively to diverse audiences
- Experience using statistical packages (e.g., SAS, STATA, R, ArcGIS etc.)
- Experience using Microsoft Office (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Excellent project management skills
- Self-motivated and able to work independently on multiple projects with limited supervision
- Appropriately receive constructive feedback and pivot your approach as necessary
- Preferred initiation or completion of graduate level work in epidemiologic or statistical field
- Preferred experience in Fire, EMS, or hospital space
- Preferred quality improvement experience (Six Sigma, Institute for Healthcare Improvement)
- Preferred project management experience
- Demonstrated success team objectives related to operational performance improvement.
