JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Rolling Stock Technician DEPARTMENT: Maintenance
WORK HOURS: 40 hours per week, with occasional overtime
QUALIFICATIONS
(Equivalent education and/or experience may be substituted for qualifications.)
AS degree in heavy equipment maintenance preferred or equivalent experience
Training in hydraulic systems trouble shooting and maintenance preferred.
Minimum of 4 year experience as a heavy equipment mechanic, or other related experience.
High School Diploma or GED required.
Valid class three driver's license required.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs and solves rolling stock equipment problems by identifying the cause of failure and applying the appropriate repairs to ensure equipment availability.
Troubleshoots electrical, hydraulic and mechanical systems, with appropriate testing equipment such as diagnostic software such as CAT ET
Recognizes and performs preventative maintenance of rolling stock equipment using manufacturers procedures and service intervals
Performs repairs and overhauls to equipment and components through safe and proper use of tools and rigging equipment.
Uses a hand held radio, for communication.
Insures all ESOCO Safety Policies and Procedures are adhered to.
Performs other duties as required or assigned.
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS
Must have a thorough understanding of heavy equipment such as CAT, VOLVO, JOHN DEERE: Terminators, dozers, excavators, loaders, fork trucks, boom lifts and skid steers and Prentice loaders.
Prepares accurate and complete service histories.
Ability to use and maintain hand tools, power tools, including but not limited to hydraulic and electrical diagnostic equipment.
Must be able to use cutting torches proficiently.
PHYSICAL
Sitting: At workbench or in the field.
Standing/Walking: Going to and from field jobs.
Crouching (bend at knees): Working on field equipment.
Stooping (bend at waist): Working on field equipment.
Reaching: In shop and field work.
Twisting/Turning: In shop and field work.
Climbing: Climbing ladders and stairs throughout plant.
Crawling: To reach some equipment.
Kneeling: Kneels in shop and field work.
Leg/Foot: Walking, climbing ladders and stairs.
Handling: In shop and field work.
Fingering/Feeling/Grasping: In shop and field work.
Balance: For climbing ladders and scaffolds.
Vehicle Use: To pick up parts, move materials, ladders, etc.
Pushing/Pulling: In moving parts on a hand cart up to 200 lbs.
Lifting/Carrying: Lifting boiler parts, machine parts, and motors up to 60-70 lbs.
USES OF SENSES
Talking in person/by phone: Receiving instructions and learning about problems. Talking on phone to vendors, suppliers and tech representatives.
Hearing: Telephone, radio, and equipment noises.
Vision: Must see work and work area well.
Smell: For detection of hazardous conditions.
Personal Dress/Hygiene Standards: Must be clean shaven to accommodate wearing full face respirator. Required to change soiled uniforms before leaving plant.
MENTAL
Interaction with Others/Communication: Must be able to communicate well with all levels of plant personnel and vendors.
Flexibility Requirements: Must be able to change job assignment on short time notice.
Attention to Detail Requirements: Must be very accurate.
Highly Repetitive Requirements: working on equipment with many similar parts.
Time/Deadline/Shift/Overtime requirements: Equipment down time is critical to plant operations.
Emotional Stability Requirements: Must be able to work under time requirement pressure.
Other Psychological Demands: Must be able to learn from vendor instruction material and apply to work.
ENVIRONMENTAL
Safety Requirements: Must utilize lock-out/tag-out procedures when working on various electrical and mechanical equipment. Use of hard-hat, safety glasses, steel toed boots are required. Respirator may be required.
Exposures: Exposed to chemicals, vibration, humidity, cold, heat, dust, noise, fumes and odors.
Operation of Equipment/Tools: Operates all electrical and instrument equipment at plant site that relates to mechanical work.
