Job Description

This is a remote position for US residents only.

This is a technical writer role that produces high-quality documentation related to the development of enterprise and informatics software systems in support of cancer clinical trials and research. The role will interact directly with management, technical, and project staff to develop project and customer-facing documentation that meets stakeholder requirements and user needs.
 
Essential Functions:
  1. Rapidly gain a deep understanding of complex technologies and scientific problem domains, and translate into clear, polished, engaging content that meets the needs of all stakeholders.
  2. Ensure compliance with organizational standards and best practices for documentation.
  3. Work in an Agile environment to gather, develop and maintain technical materials such as SOPs, data dictionaries, API documentation, user guide(s), design specifications, and process documentation, with a consistent voice across all assets.
  4. Participate in team meetings with project staff to put together suitable presentations for clients.
  5. Evaluate current content and tools and provide recommendations for improvements.
  6. Stay current with industry trends and best practices.
Preferred Experience:
  1. Firm understanding of SDLC (systems development lifecycle) and experience in software development.
  2. Prior experience in creating graphics and diagrams using tools such as the Adobe Suite and LucidChart.
  3. Prior experience working in the Precision Medicine space, or related scientific field.
  4. Prior experience in instructional design and creative writing.
  5. Professional certification (e.g.: Society for Technical Communication)
 
Required Experience:
  1. 2-3 years of experience in technical writing, editing, or related experience.
  2. Proven ability to quickly learn and understand complex subject matter.
  3. Experience in writing documentation and procedure manuals for various audiences.
  4. Superb critical thinking and written communication skills, with a keen eye for detail.
  5. Demonstrated proficiency using MS Office Suite, Acrobat, HTML/CSS, and Markdown.
  6. Experience creating accessible content and 508 compliant documents.
  7. Experience working with engineers to improve user experience, refine content, and create precise, accessible screenshots for technical support content.
  8. Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously in a rapidly changing environment.
  9. Possession of a Bachelor or Graduate degree in English, journalism, communications, or relevant technical field from an accredited college or university (according to CHEA).
  10. Work for this position must be performed in the United States (required). Candidates local to Rockville, MD are preferred.
