Reports to: Marketing & Communications Director

Duration and Hours: Spring Term and/or Summer Term, minimum 10 hours per week

Position Summary
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth deveopment, healthy living and social responsibility. The Marketing & Communications Intern at the Eugene Family YMCA is a vital part of a cause-centered culture that is welcoming, genuine, hopeful, nurturing, and determined and builds the community’s understanding of the YMCA’s cause and impact. In addition, the Marketing & Communications Intern will get a sneak peek into planning for December 2023, when the Eugene Y will be opening a new state-of-the art flagship facility, which will transform the Y’s impact on Health & Wellness throughout Lane County.


Essential Functions

  • Helps plan and create social media posts that represent the values and personality of the Eugene Family YMCA
  • Photographs events, members and staff for social media, the Website, e-newsletters, printed newsletters or flyers
  • Interviews members and staff for content for social media, the Website, e-newsletters, printed newsletters or flyers
  • Willingness to learn marketing and communications tools, such as Constant Contact, Sprout Social and SOCIY Website
  • Complete all required trainings as assigned by supervisor, by scheduled due date
  • If required to drive while on duty (either your own vehicle or a Y-owned vehicle), must maintain a current, valid Oregon driver’s license, a DMV driving record that meets YMCA standards, and evidence of insurability throughout entire term of employment
  • Other duties as assigned


Minimum Qualifications

  • Education credits or previous experience in marketing, communications or other related field
  • At least intermediate level computer skills and experience with standard business software, including Microsoft Office applications Word and Excel


Professional Competencies

  • Understanding of the basics of social media, including the standard format of each platform (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter & LinkedIn), the use of hashtags and links, and engagement
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Must have strong interpersonal, public relations and communications skills, including the ability to call, email or meet in-person with members or other organizations
  • Ability to self-direct and work independently on assigned tasks
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a dynamic team environment

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use a computer for extended periods of time and be able to communicate using a computer and phone/smart device
  • The employee frequently is required to sit, stand and reach and must be able to move around the work environment
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
