Job Description
The Insourced Flow Cytometry scientist is responsible for the routine operation and maintenance of the flow cytometry instruments on-site, generation and delivery of high-quality assay reagents, and assistance with, or execution of, flow cytometry assays to meet the demands of the programs supported by West Point Quantitative Biosciences, Infectious Diseases & Vaccines, and Neuroscience. Work may involve the use of human, murine, and non-human primate materials. The employee must be willing to work in a BSL2 setting.
Responsibilities Include:
- Instrument startup, QC, cleaning/decontamination, and shutdown
- BD FACSymphony A3, BD Symphony X-50, BD Canto II, BD LSR II (x2), BD Aria Fusion cell sorter, Sony SH800 cell sorter, Luminex, Corp. Guava Easycyte (x3), ThermoFisher Attune NxT, Sony ID7000 spectral cytometer
- Restocking reagents
- Organizing workspaces
- Interaction with and assistance of users with cell sorting, running multi-panel flow cytometry experiments, and sample prep for large experiments.
- Data management
- Troubleshooting and/or assisting end users
- Managing PMs and/or repairs with vendors
- Autoclaving sheath tanks
- Cell Sorting (0-3 times per week):
- Reagent QC to confirm Cell Line marker expression/differentiation
- Developing and testing multiplexed panels, compatibility, antibody titrations, voltage titrations, fluorescence minus one controls, etc
- Screening donor cells prior to in vivo studies, blinded testing of in vivo samples from vehicle or treatment groups
- Maintain scientific laboratory excellence regarding quality of work, following established safety procedures and requirements, and documenting work appropriately in an Electronic Laboratory Notebook
Qualifications
- At least 3 years in a laboratory setting
- Experience with flow cytometry.
- Strong computer, scientific, and organizational skills
- Excellent communication (both written and verbal)
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously, manage time effectively, and ability to follow written procedures and instruction
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Minimum Qualifications :
- Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, or related scientific field or equivalent work experience
