Job Description
In this role, the Staff Accountant is primarily accountable for managing ESS accounting operations, supporting MRP and standard cost daily transactions and maintenance, generating financial and operational reports, and coordinating flow of financial information for integrated corporate reporting.
Responsibilities include:
ESS Accounting Operations
- Supports development and maintenance of documented accounting policies and procedures
- Executes ESS daily accounting activities as directed by the ESS Finance Team (including AP, AR, Inventory, general ledger, Invoicing, financial statement generation, budgeting support, tax compliance support, and various special analyses)
- Maintains the company’s system of accounts
- Maintains general ledger and records all transactions and assets
- Maintains the company’s Inventory and Fixed Asset subledger details
- Reconciles entity P&L/balance sheets and provides reconciliation reports to ESS Finance Team.
- Conducts month-end, quarter-end and year-end financial activities as directed.
- Maintains other planning and control procedures (including the cost accounting system)
- Supports attainment of budget objectives by scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions.
- Protects assets by monitoring and enforcing internal controls.
- Provides input for process improvements for company accounting and ERP/MRP systems
- Works closely with President and management team to set and/or implement policies, procedures, and systems
ERP/MRP/Standard Cost Transactions and Maintenance
- Executes daily and monthly MRP transactions as directed (including invoice vouchering, inventory transactions, batch posting, etc.)
- Maintains standard costs and MRP data (including material, labor, and overhead cost components) in collaboration with ESS Finance and Supply Chain leaders
- Ensures all Bills of Materials are accurate, correct, and current.
- Ensures cost accounting practices are properly implemented and monitored.
- Supports Supply Chain and Finance Team in the set-up, operation and maintenance of the MRP system
- Support year-end physical inventory process and/or material cycle count administration
Financial, Operational, and Integrated Reporting
- Supports the preparation of the company budget
- Provides input to month-end close as directed
- Works with ESS Finance Team, Eurofins US National Service Center (NSC) and Eurofins Group accounting departments to provide timely and complete financial information and to streamline financial accounting reporting processes
- Supports the generation, analysis and variance reporting of monthly financial statements
- Prepares, analyzes, and coordinates reporting to plant and senior management
- Partners with the President and other key personnel to maximize efficiency and profitability
- Supports financial analyses and decision-making for capital investments, pricing, significant costs, benchmarks, and other matters with management
- Supports coordination of accounting information for external auditors during annual audit.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, economics, or finance.
- 5 years of relevant accounting experience; especially AP
- Proficiency with accounting software
- Strong numerical proficiency, organization, problem-solving skills and excellent use of logic
- Excellent computer skills; experience in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); Access, database, or other system knowledge.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and initiatives with ever-increasing responsibility
- Analytical insight to evaluate manufacturing and service level information to guide operational decisions
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and ability to effectively interact and communicate with all levels of management within the Company and outside vendors/customers
- Ability to comfortably work within a dynamic, high growth, environment.
- Ability to comfortably work within an integration environment requiring communication across geographic, divisional, and organizational boundaries.
- Positive, can-do, team player!

Travel
Expected travel associated with position is <10% of the time and may change with industry/business demands
Additional Information
Position is full-time, Monday - Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm. Preference will be given to candidates living within a commutable distance of San Leandro, CA, but remote work is considered. Preferred remote locations include Sacramento, CA, Houston, TX, Richmond, VA, Knoxville, TN.
