TRAFFIC SAFETY MONITOR

LOCATION: SILVER STAR

REPORTS TO:  Principal/Associate Principal/Transportation Director

DEPARTMENT: Elementary/Middle School

 

Hours / Work Times

 

0.50 Hours Per Day (8:55 a.m. - 9:25 a.m.)

 

190 Days Per Year (180 student days / 10 holidays)

 

A valid First Aid/CPR card must be submitted to Classified Personnel within 30 days of hire.  Only courses with a "hands-on" component taught by a certified instructor are acceptable.

 

This position will remain open until a qualified applicant is selected.  The earliest date a recommendation for hire may be submitted is after 09/29/22.

 

Proof of COVID-19 vaccination is required.

SUMMARY STATEMENT:

Under the supervision of the building Principal/Associate Principal/Transportation Manager, the traffic safety monitor position provides safety support to the educational process by providing safe access to and from the school campus.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Communicate effectively with students, staff, and the general public.
  2. Monitor and direct bus, parent, and/or visitor traffic.
  3. Flag traffic as necessary to provide safe access and exit from campus to walking and riding students, in accordance with District training.
  4. Carry out discipline procedures as defined by the building principal.
  5. Record any student behavior that is not safe or appropriate and provide a written report to the principal.
  6. Provide prudent safety-related information to the Principal/Associate Principal.
  7. Perform FIrst Aid/CPR when necessary.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Perform other related duties as assigned.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT NECESSARY:

Two-way radio, paddle/flag for directing traffic and all other tools and equipment necessary to perform the essential functions as listed above.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, and the general public.
  2. Demonstrated ability to effectively apply techniques in working with students in the area of behavior management.
  3. Demonstrated ability to prepare legible reports/documents and give clear verbal instructions.
  4. Knowledge of or willingness to become knowledgeable of the rights of students and legal aspects of the position.
  5. Must be able to demonstrate honesty and integrity and be able to maintain confidentiality in handling security matters.
  6. Must be able to demonstrate punctuality and dependability and work with minimal supervision.
  7. Must possess or be able to acquire a First Aid/CPR card within 30 days of employment.
  8. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with others as part of a team.
