Basic Description
Plant Manager of Everwear, Inc., a family owned manufacturing company with 40 employees. Everwear is in its 40th year of providing superior cutting tools and related products to many converting industries around the world. The Plant Manager leads the Production department of 30 employees in functional teams. Direct reports include five Production Team Leaders, two Quality Assurance Inspectors, one Module Coordinator, and one Maintenance Specialist. Responsible for the productivity, efficiency, quality and safety of the Production department, as well as the physical plant and equipment of Everwear. The Plant Manager reports directly to the President, and works closely with the Vice President of Marketing to ensure that Everwear’s production and sales teams are integrated at all times.
Job Qualifications
1. Leadership skills to set goals, implement initiatives and follow up to ensure the success of the Production department of a small manufacturing company.
2. Previous experience in both personnel and production management, with a history of demonstrated process improvement.
3. A strong overall machine shop/manufacturing background, with a heavy emphasis on CNC machining and a working knowledge of tool steels.
4. Strong interpersonal skills; the ability to communicate effectively and work with not just your team, but across the organization, and outside of it with suppliers and customers.
5. Ability to problem solve in a fast paced environment.
6. Firm understanding of business financial reporting, cost control and supply chain management.
Areas of Emphasis
1. Employee Development.
- Hiring, advancement, compensation determination, etc., of Production employees.
- Coaching, reviewing and follow-up with direct reports; ensure Team Leaders develop their people.
- Manage personnel capacity to meet production requirements.
2. Quality.
- Continue to build Everwear’s brand as the highest level of quality in our industries, dedicated to our customers’ productivity.
- Build in quality at the source.
- Ensure QA team provides the extra layer of product excellence.
- Effectively keep teams accountable for the quality of their work.
3. Production Management.
- Flow of jobs from raw material through production and shipping to meet customer orders.
- Constantly work to improve processes to increase productivity, efficiency and profitability without sacrificing quality.
- Strong proficiency with our ERP system to use technology to assist with the flow of production.
4. Safety.
- Enforce safety standards across the company and ensure OSHA compliance.
- Actively manage specific safety programs (i.e. Energy Control, Forklift Training).
5. Physical Plant Management.
- Machine PM and corrective maintenance/repair.
- Building maintenance and repair.
- Shop environment and cleanliness.
Additional Position Information
The current Plant Manager is moving into a Sales position within Everwear. Our goal is to have a new Plant Manager hired and fully in place by the end of the year, so the current Plant Manager can fully begin his own transition into Sales.
Everwear runs a first shift from 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and a small second shift from 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. Saturday overtime is available for Production teams as needed to meet requirements.
The normal Plant Manager hours are 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with occasional availability after hours.
The Plant Manager position is salaried and exempt. Salary is commensurate with experience level.
