Lead Manufacturing Engineer

You will be responsible for defining this Aerospace/Defence Start-Up's full in-house composites manufacturing processes, from raw materials to flight parts – with a focus on high-temperature composites.

This Lead Manufacturing Engineer reports directly to the Head of Manufacturing and works closely with other Sr/Exec level colleagues to lay foundations for the companies production & manufacturing strategy

Lead Manufacturing Engineer Responsibilities

• Oversee the design of high-temperature composite manufacturing processes, including ceramic matrix composites (CMC), from raw material to final flight parts.
• Develop and implement detailed production plans, including machinery, tooling, and facility layout, ensuring they align with business requirements and production goals.
• Create and maintain comprehensive process documentation, including build instructions, safety standards, and validation procedures.
• Collaborate with supply chain partners to optimize supplier development and manage production materials to prevent delays.
• Lead troubleshooting efforts and resolve manufacturing issues, ensuring product quality and adherence to design specifications.

Lead Manufacturing Engineer Requirements

• 5 years of experience in manufacturing high-temperature composites, including hands-on experience with CMC and similar materials.
• Strong background in designing and implementing production tooling, equipment, and facilities.
• Proficiency in CAD/CAM software (e.g., NX) and experience with composite manufacturing techniques such as filament winding and automated fiber placement.
• Experience in developing and refining process documentation, including safety standards and production schedules.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor teams, manage product line operations, and effectively communicate with cross-functional teams.
