SUMMARY
 
The Survey Crew Chief is responsible for supervising a field survey crew for mapping and construction projects, as well as personally being involved in the day-to-day survey work as needed and reporting survey data to the department director.
 
The position is located in Eden Prairie, MN.
 
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Day to day supervision of a field survey crew engaged in various types of surveys such as boundary traverses, location surveys, level runs, retracement surveys, staking subdivisions, bridges, and highway and commercial developments
  • Accurate and timely documentation/work log of all phases of the survey work that is being performed, providing all data and information to the department director
  • Interpret blueprints/plans/deeds to effectively lead the survey crew
  • Responsible for driving a company vehicle to and from job sites
  • Operate all survey equipment and interpret data to report information to the department director
  • Compute and understand field calculations relative to the survey data collected
 
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience in a Survey Crew Chief role
  • High school diploma or GED, 2 years of college preferred
  • Ability to understand and operate total stations with electronic data collecting capabilities
  • Ability to run Trimble GPS and robotic total stations
  • Ability to work with computer programs and perform calculations such as algebra and trigonometry and compute arcs, angles, and distances from surface data
  • Knowledge of construction plans and specifications
  • Must have good handwriting skills for marking lath and recording field notes
  • Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record required
  • Must have or be prepared to obtain OSHA 10-hour training, railway safety training and additional project related safety certifications
  • Strong communication skills, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Positive and professional attitude
  • Experience with MnDOT and railroad staking a plus
  • Availability for out-of-town work a plus
