What are the responsibilities and job description for the DC Correspondent (Catholic News Agency) position at EWTN Global Catholic Network?
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The D.C. Correspondent is responsible for producing news articles and other reporting as assigned by editors, and for representing Catholic News Agency at various functions and events. Collaborates and supports other EWTN apostolates through television and radio appearances as necessary.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Produces one to two news articles per day on current events of national interest or local relevancy, on subjects assigned or approved by editors (i.e. USCCB, Catholic Charities, pro-life, religious freedom, immigration and poverty legislation, HHS mandate, foreign policy, bioethics, etc.).
- Covers press briefings, legislative hearings, civic and community functions, and Catholic liturgical or cultural events. Takes photographs and organizes images for export as needed. Conducts research, consults experts for background, develops a network of sources and contacts, and conducts interviews as appropriate.
- Supports and engages in CNA social media reporting and presence.
- Supports other EWTN apostolates, through collaborative reporting, including occasional television and radio appearances.
WHAT SKILLS/TALENTS WILL THE IDEAL CANDIDATE POSSESS?
- Minimum of 1-3 years prior experience working in a journalism or related role.
- A practicing and committed Catholic, in the full communion of the Catholic Church.
- Familiarity with contemporary social, political, and religious issues, and basic liberal arts formation in theology, philosophy, and history.
- Capacity for basic analysis of events in relationship to the teachings of the Catholic Church.
- Strong writing skills and journalistic knowledge to include proficiency in English, with a firm grasp of grammar, usage, and syntax.
- Ability to write cogently, correctly, and quickly, according to the ethical and professional standards of Catholic News Agency. Ability to represent Catholic News Agency professionally, with sources, and in television, radio, and online media as necessary.
- Ability to attend events, including some travel, as required.
