Who we are:

Excel Recycling is a 20 year old scrap metal recycling company, owned & operated by local family, with decades of experience in the scrap metal industry. We are a growing metals recycling company, with multiple locations in the New England region. Excel Recycling processes ferrous scrap metal consisting of end-of-life automobiles, obsolete appliances, demolition scrap coming from construction projects to all non-ferrous metals, such as aluminum, brass & copper, & stainless steel.

Purpose/Basic Function:

To facilitate the purchase of scrap metal and associated materials to be delivered for processing to an Excel Recycling facility. A qualified candidate will be required to develop a relationship with existing suppliers, and to identify potential new sources of scrap metals. The target metals listed above, are primarily sourced from local dealers, auto salvage yards, municipally owned transfer stations, demolition contractors, industrial manufacturing accounts, and other contractors, such as plumbers & electricians. All related job functions will be completed in the safest, most efficient, and cost-effective procedure possible, while keeping the needs of our suppliers as one of the top priorities.

Principle Responsibilities:

The Outside Buyer will work closely with the commercial operation, administrative & logistic teams, to source, coordinate the delivery of scrap metal loads, and communicate the basic requirements per supplier, back to the team. Completing a transaction, from the initial contact, negotiating a purchase, coordinating the material movement, quality control, and final settlement, is paramount.

Specific Duties:

• Portray a positive image & promote the Excel Recycling Business during discussions or visits with customers/suppliers.
• Provide a high level of customer service during meet and greet activity at any Excel Recycling facility, while visiting suppliers, or while on the phone.
• Communicate and reinforce Excel’s position on scrap acceptance in line with Environmental Health and Safety regulations.
• Contact current and potential suppliers, both in person and over the phone.
• Maintain current relationships and develop/expand supplier base.
• Arrange for the pick-up of the material or commits resources to process and move the material from the supplier's location.
• Coordinate with office staff to ensure accurate and timely documentation of all purchasing transactions.
• Pursues all types of FE & NF Metal Generators: Demolition Contractors, Scrap Dealers, Auto Wreckers, etc.
• Coordinate and follows up with Commercial Operations team to follow up on leads generated by themselves, and other buyers.
• Support the competitive bid program of the Commercial Group by assisting in the inspection and grading of material as well as in the calculation of required resources.
• Review daily scale supplier/commodity reports and communicate to suppliers and management any problems noted.
• Assesses and passes concerns regarding quality to the facility Inside Buyer for close inspection of supplier deliveries if situations should warrant.
• Communicate daily with production and environmental staff regarding the quality of scrap to ensure compliance with current regulations and policies.
• Provide weekly reports on the number of visits to customers; quantity and quality of material purchased; follow-up action that is anticipated or required; expense reports; etc.
• Communicate special handling or payment terms to transportation and accounting departments to ensure Material Purchasing Agreements are met.
• Verifies the scale purchase system has the latest pricing and, as necessary, coordinates with the Facility Office Manager to ensure the pricing is brought up to date.
• Manages supplier pricing information to ensure ease in processing of supplier remittances and minimize errors during the scale receiving process.

Minimum Requirements and Skills:

Experience:

Experience in sales in and around a scrap yard is preferred, but willing to train the right candidate.

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.

Skills:

• Must have outgoing, ambitious personality & comfortable communicating with management, colleagues, and yard owners.
• Must have good phone etiquette to deal with customers.
• Must be detail oriented.
• Must have excellent basic math skills.
• Must possess good problem solving skills.
• Must be comfortable negotiating in tough environments.
• Basic knowledge of various types of scrap metal.

• Must be computer literate & have basic Microsoft Office experience to understand & update various reports.
