The emergency room tech provides technical support for providers and nurses in the facility. Due to being a smaller facility it is the expectation that the ER tech helps all unit when needed for patient care.
The purpose of this position is to assist and support nursing and medical staff in performing patient care, environmental tasks, stock supplies, and check equipment to ensure patient-focused, cost-effective, and operational departments.
The ER Tech will also be responsible for assisting nurses and medical staff with appropriate skills within heir scopes of practice (procedures, tray set ups, lab draws, EKGs, splinting, ADLs, obtaining VS / height and weight, etc) MUST HAVE CURRENT CERTIFICATION IN ONE OF THE FOLLOWING : Paramedic, EMT, CNA General Expectations from ALL Employees : Treat all patients and colleagues with dignity and respect.
Have open communication between all departments and cultivate a team environment. Listen to all points of view when problem solving and collaborate as a team.
Follow all hospital / department policies and procedures. Annual compliance to be completed before the deadline. Follow appropriate chain of command when addressing any hospital or department issues.
Attendance is paramount to a successful department and team. It is expected that each staff member will arrive to work with enough time to conduct the appropriate change of shift functions with unapproved OT.
All time off will be requested in the appropriate manner and before the schedule is published. Working weekends and holidays are a required part of working in inpatient bedside healthcare, and will be determined by department managers.
Holiday schedules will be determined and published by the department managers base on unit needs. Company equipment, supplies, and time will be used only for company activities, not personal activities.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities Assist the nurses and providers in providing technical care of the patients by : documenting vital signs based on ESI level time increments or when asked, performing phlebotomy and IV starts (based on certs), performing EKGs, transporting patients, placing patients on cardiac monitors, performing point of care testing, performing wound care, obtaining lab specimens, splinting, and documenting all care / procedures provided.
Obtains lab specimens as ordered. Assists providers with physical exams, diagnostics, and therapeutic procedures. Applies a variety of orthopedic splints and fits patients for crutches / walkers.
Ensures that the patient care areas, utility rooms, supply rooms, and equipment are clean and maintained. Cleans equipment and workspace (including patient rooms, restrooms if needed, waiting room when needed, and nurses stations).
Ensure there is a sufficient amount of supplies in rooms and nurses station (linens, thermometer probes, otoscopes, VS / cardiac monitor equipment, IV supplies, lab supplies, triage supplies, TV remotes, etc).
Perform daily duties and document in the binder at the beginning of every shift. Perform QC and POC lab testing (glucometer / lab draws) Perform daily checks of ABS equipment in every room at the beginning of every shift.
Maintain temperature and humidity logs in appropriate areas. Responsible for changing out sharps containers. Recognizes equipment malfunctions and refers to appropriate destination for repairs.
Performs patient care as directed by nursing or medical staff, documenting on the medical record. Perform quality control procedures and maintain records on these checks.
Perform calibrations in compliance with manufacturers requirements. Ensures all patient care is performed within the facilities policies & protocols.
Maintains compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, and CMS requirements. Ensures all annual MedTrainers are up to date. Stay current on new testing methods, products, and equipment.
Demonstrates the values to a team concept on a consistent basis Interact professionally with all department members, providers, staff, administration, and leadership.
Responsible for documenting correct information for compliance purposes, within ESI level. Remains knowledgeable about appropriate testing procedures.
Perform other duties as assigned. Safety & Infection Control Demonstrate knowledge of and adhere to regulations and facility policies and procedures pertaining to safety, emergency preparedness, infection control, OSHA, fire safety and hazardous materials.

Able to perform care in non-judgmental manners and recognize discrepancies between patient and personal beliefs. Qualifications Education & Experience : Graduated from program to achieve licensing in EMT / Paramedic / CNA At least 2 years of experience in an emergency room or emergency setting.
Basic Skills Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions. Ability to effectively present information to patients / families / team members Ability to perform med math calculations / height and weight calculations Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
Ability to problem solve with multiple variables in situations. Computer Skills Basic computer skills / charting system knowledge.
Responsible for always wearing identification on upper part of uniform when in the facility. Attend ALL ER required meetings and in-service education.
Responsible for complying with all compliance standards including annual MedTrainer competencies, and annual skill fair competencies.
Remain flexible in staffing patterns and staffing resolutions when conflict arises. Participates in the team environment.
