The Executive Office of Veterans Services seeks a motivated Outreach Coordinator for the State Advocacy for Veterans Empowerment (SAVE) program in the Worcester region, aimed at individuals dedicated to significantly impacting veterans' lives. This vital role focuses on aiding veterans struggling with mental health issues, homelessness, suicidal ideation, substance abuse or navigating judicial system complexities by connecting them with deserved resources and services. Responsibilities include conducting comprehensive intake assessments, developing Individual Recovery Plans (IRPs), and facilitating veterans' access to necessary support, while also advocating for their rights across various platforms and collaborating with service providers and Veteran Service Officers. This position not only demands a proactive approach to relationship building and advocacy but also represents a profound commitment to enhancing veterans' futures through dedicated support and empowerment.

  • Assist veterans with developing goals to be reached and creating Individual Recovery Plans (IRPs), relative to the intake and assessment.
  • Perform comprehensive assessments to collect critical information, including physical ability, service and contact information, exposure to trauma, and mental health history.
  • Refer veterans to service providers who can help them attain goals identified from the intake assessment.
  • Connect veterans with appropriate service providers through direct introductions or facilitated meetings.
  • Link veterans to service providers by physically taking them to service providers or by facilitating face-to-face meetings between veterans and service providers.
  • Provide Department’s related trainings to community and Veterans.
  • Deliver department-related training to the community and veterans; represent SAVE in various forums and meetings.
  • Represent the SAVE Team at Continuum of Care, various task force, interagency or intra-department meetings and in public forums.
  • Advocate for veteran client rights and benefits with community service providers, federal and state agencies, court systems, employers, landlords, and significant others to ensure that client's rights are recognized and respected.
  • Attend case management meetings and relevant training sessions, seminars, conferences, and professional development courses to maintain and improve current knowledge of issues in the veterans' community.
  • Participate in case management meetings, training sessions, and seminars to stay informed on veterans' issues.
  • Form working relationships with other service providers and act as the liaison between veterans and service providers.
  • Foster relationships with service providers and act as a liaison between veterans and these entities.
  • Recommend or develop enhancements to policies, procedures, and systems development.
  • Address inquiries from providers, the general public, and EOVS staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to follow protocols and manage caseloads.
  • Proficient interpersonal communication skills.
  • Understanding of military culture.
  • Familiarity with HIPAA regulations.
  • Comfort in discussing sensitive topics such as suicide.

Qualifications Preferred:

  • Enhanced knowledge of veteran issues and services in Massachusetts.
  • Understanding of policies related to Massachusetts' veterans’ programs and federal programs relating to veterans.

Qualifications

MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must have at least (A) two years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional, administrative or managerial experience in business administration, business management or public administration the major duties of which involved program management, program administration, program coordination, program planning and/or program analysis, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.
Substitutions:
I. A Bachelor's or higher degree with a major in business administration, business management or public administration may be substituted for the required experience.*
II. A Bachelor's or higher degree with a major other than in business administration, business management or public administration may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required experience.*
  • Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
