Job Summary:
The EXOS Human Performance Lab (HPL) conducts research studies into advanced technologies and programs. Research Associates play a critical role in the successful execution of our studies by executing research protocols with oversight from the Research Coordinator, Project Manager (if applicable), and Primary and/or Co-Investigators.HPL supports highly confidential product and algorithm development for leading technology companies. This research program is a highly strategic project that is associated with the long-term vision for EXOS’ HPL. The role of the Research Associate within this program will be physically demanding. In addition to the general research activities listed above, you will be expected to serve as an internal tester by completing multiple testing scenarios each work day. You will be expected to keep all testing details, materials, and equipment confidential.

This position reports to the Director of Research / Principal Investigator and is based in Mountain View, California.
Job Description:
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
You will execute multiple concurrent studies and/or protocols under the supervision of the Project Manager, Principal and Co-Investigators. To do this you will take on the roles of:
- Expert Internal Tester: Execute multiple test scenarios in accordance with testing protocols and guidelines daily, both indoors and outdoors. Make recommendations for improvements to process, protocol, and materials relevant to specific test scenarios.
- Research Assistant: Work with external participants to execute research protocols and related activities. Adherence to confidentiality requirements, HIPAA standards, and study/program protocols. Provide administrative support to research staff as needed. Participate in research activities, staff training, audits and product evaluations, as needed
- Data Collector and Recorder: Manual and passive data collection for all test scenarios completed by internal and external testers. Maintain clear and concise documentation of all test procedures. Provide detailed annotation of all testing activities (internal and external metadata, and testing environment details). Perform data offload and basic device troubleshooting.
- Reporter: Work with Research Analyst and Data Manager to generate reports for each test scenario and device certification processes. Execute quality assurance procedures to ensure data and research integrity.
- Student: Become knowledgeable of all test devices, reference devices, and study/program protocols including data offload procedures. Implement research, data integrity, confidentiality, safety, and security best practices.
- Team Player: Perform additional duties as assigned.

- Other physical demands may include: Lifting up to 25 pounds or participation in other strenuous activities of varying intensities. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
Environmental Conditions: The environmental conditions the employee will be subject to in this position are described below.
- Activities occur indoors and outdoors. In some instances, no effective protection from weather may be available. If you only like to exercise outdoors when it’s 70 degrees and sunny, this is not the job for you.
- Elevation: There will be opportunities to complete study activities at or close to sea level and elevations at or above 10,000 ft. If this excites you, this may be the job for you!
- You’ll sometimes conduct tests on rural and mountainous trails, sand, concrete, and asphalt. This is an all-terrain job.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher.
- Minimum 2 years professional experience in a related field with some experience with data collection, reporting, or executing research studies.
- Familiar with wearable devices and related technology. Knowledge of the wearable technology ecosystem, from sensors to smartphones to web services, is important in this role. Proficient in Google Workspace.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Formal research training or previous experience.
- Experience in data collection, quality assurance/control, and confidentiality.
- Experience in an academic or applied research environment.
- Experience in sport, fitness, or wellness focused environment.
- Bonus points for experience with Bluetooth device testing, GIS software and geolocation technology, or optical biometric sensors.
