Your Challenge
We are seeking a Senior QC Lead Inspector to function for CM/CEI services operating in the field supporting our team with quality control inspections for the Washington Gas Permit Inspections and any other miscellaneous task assignments in Maryland, Washington DC, or Virginia. Monitor the work of transportation and heavy civil contractors and ensure quality control and contract compliance with MDOT, DDOT, or VDOT Road and Bridge Standards during construction and any other owner client. The position requires specialized experience and skills in permitting and inspections for Highway and roadway VDOT projects of moderate complexity. The inspector will work under the direction of a Construction Manager.
Your Responsibilities
- Assist the Project Manager and QC Inspection team with overall planned activities related to construction management and inspection services.
- Assist with preparing the job start-up and close-out checklists, quality control testing inspections, and management for permits, planning, and construction.
- Perform daily QC field inspections of all construction activities on one construction project as well as documentation of an inspector’s daily report for owner approvals.
- Prepare, expedite, and monitor logs for tracking pay quantities, source of supply, shop drawings, contract documents, submittals, requests for information, change orders, material delivery logs, material testing results, and any other documents as determined necessary for a successful project.
- Assist the Project Manager with quality control inspections for open cuts, asphalt, soils, and aggregate, and testing of steel or concrete.
- Possess working knowledge of all project plans, specifications, contracts with the Owner, subcontracts, purchase orders, daily correspondence, shop drawings, submittals, and all other project-related documents, and maintain a complete and accurate set of as-builts.
- Keep the Project Manager fully informed in a timely fashion regarding all problem areas on the project.
- Maintain good relationships through partnering with the owner, and or contractor.
- Ability to work nights, weekends, and extended hours based on the contractor’s schedule.
The Skills and Knowledge You Bring
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or relevant field work experience successfully supporting the above responsibilities.
- Candidate must be familiar with general practice construction means and methods, scheduling, and ability to read and understand plan drawings and specifications.
- Be familiar with materials, their characteristics, testing, and rebar installation procedures and tolerances.
- Has the ability to communicate well – both verbally and in writing.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and a general understanding of Primavera scheduling software.
- Ability to travel daily to construction sites. Travel may require an overnight stay for some projects.
- Ability to track and obtain written approval of all time, and expense records to be submitted for billing purposes with daily inspector QC reports and timesheet through the owner.
- Have all applicable certifications for MDOT or VDOT quality control inspector certifications and any other applicable training, education, and certifications for inspection activities.
- Determination and disposition of all non-compliances according to projects and DOT specifications.
