We are currently seeking a Scientist in our Practice in our Washington, DC office. In this role you will work as part of a team to apply your skills and knowledge of human factors issues such as vehicle operation, attention and perception, sensorimotor control and relate them to driver behavior, driver-vehicle interface evaluations, automated vehicle issues, vehicle and road system design, and other related applications. You will also work closely with engineers in Exponent's Vehicle Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Data Science, and Biomechanics Practices.
You will be responsible for:
- Designing and conducting human performance studies, including data analysis, in support of client needs
- Conducting hands on inspections and analyzing human performance as it relates to vehicles, roadways, machinery, and industrial and consumer equipment to investigate accidents and injuries
- Managing consulting activities that involve human factors in accidents and their prevention, including limitations of human perceptual, motor, cognitive, and decision-making capabilities
- Generating research, case reports, and presentations
- Working on multi-disciplinary projects and providing case management, data processing, and other project support
- Conducting research to obtain and review technical data, scientific literature, and standards
- Developing client contacts
- Participating in the design and evaluation of warnings and safety information
You will have the following skills and qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Human Factors, Engineering Psychology, Experimental, Industrial or Cognitive Psychology, Cognitive Neuroscience, Neuroscience, Industrial Engineering (emphasis on Human Factors), or a related discipline
- Undergraduate degree in psychology, engineering, or a related discipline is a plus
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills as substantiated by publication and presentation record, as well as strong interpersonal skills
- Must be proactive, organized, and have the ability to multitask and work well under pressure
- Proficiency in experimental design, human subjects testing, instrumentation, data analysis, and computer programming (e.g. R, Matlab, SAS, SPSS, Labview, etc.) a plus
