Overall Purpose of the Job
To define and ensure compliance with design regulations, standards, codes, etc. that are relevant to Expro’s products and drive best practice across the organization. To provide support to the company and its customers in the fields of material science, metallurgy, welding engineering, and non-destructive testing.
Key Activities and Accountabilities
- Acts as a Subject Matter Expert whose knowledge is recognised as extensive. Provides specialist input and decision authority to projects as required. Contributes to the resolution of complicated or unusual engineering challenges across the company.
- In conjunction with internal and external stakeholders, identifies the regulations and requirements that are relevant to Expro’s equipment/services and develops plans to ensure compliance.
- Develops, publishes, and maintains documentation including specifications, standards, and regulatory information.
- Acts as the approval authority for concession / deviation / dispensation requests against discipline design requirements.
- Identifies and drives best practice / continuous improvement across all Product Lines in relation to discipline design and manufacture.
- Performs and participates in forensic failure investigations.
- Organizes, conducts, and reports on materials laboratory testing.
- Researches, evaluates, and reports on emerging discipline technologies and trends. Performs research and development.
- Develops, qualifies, and approves welding procedures.
- Supports supplier technical evaluation and onboarding.
- Liaises with other discipline Technical Authorities to ensure integration and clear accountability in areas that may cover more than one discipline (e.g. ATEX, SIL, DNV, etc)
- Creates and maintains a skills / expertise database including development tools and external technology providers / partners.
- Establishes QMS requirements and standardises top level discipline design procedures, processes, etc. in line with company’s management systems. Provides guidance and expertise on discipline design, manufacturing, and Quality Assurance (QA) methodologies and processes.
- Actively adheres to the Code of Conduct and Anti-Bribery policies, procedures, and processes to ensure the highest ethical standards are maintained and exposure to liability or risk to Expro’s reputation is minimised. Provides leadership in all ethical issues; ensures employees are aware of Expro’s compliance requirements and feels able to report possible violations or conflicts of interest.
- Actively adheres to and ensures compliance with applicable Quality policies, procedures, processes, and systems. Takes an active part in quality improvement processes. Acts on reported deficiencies and approves deviations from standard procedures as appropriate.
- Ensures that employees adhere to and comply with all applicable Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) policies, procedures, and processes. Provides leadership in HSE; encourages employees to take responsibility and be accountable for their own and others’ safety and provides an environment where they feel authorised to stop any unsafe job. Ensures that all incidents and non-conformances are reported in line with the appropriate procedures and deadlines; ensures that all incidents are investigated and corrective actions raised as required; where appropriate, participates in incident investigations.
- Supervises, mentors, and coaches direct reports and ensure completion of their Employee Development Plans. Where applicable, ensures that training and competency programs are in place to facilitate the mentoring of subordinates through the competency system. Conducts competency assessments when required.
Job Knowledge and Qualifications
Relevant discipline degree (Materials Science and Engineering, Metallurgy/Metallurgical Engineering, Welding Engineering, Mechanical Engineering with Materials focus, etc.)
15 years relevant experience in engineering and/or specialist discipline; broad oil & gas industry knowledge
Broad knowledge of materials, metallurgy, material mechanics, manufacturing, inspection, and welding/fabrication including governing standards and specifications (e.g., ASTM, AWS, ASME, BS EN, DNV, API, etc.).
Strong analytical, systems, applications related experience
