Job Role Summary
User Experience (UX) focuses on building effective, efficient, and enjoyable experiences for end users. Persons in this role may work as a UX generalist or may specialize in one of two primary disciplines: UX Research and UX Design.
UX Research focuses on understanding a problem space, its users, and their goals and pain points, and then communicating to build empathy and understanding within the organization. This research can happen at any stage in the application lifecycle, from determining business processes to judging the usability of applications under development or during the purchase process. Tools of the trade come from the user-centered design process and include contextual inquiries, qualitative & quantitative research, personas, journey maps, scenarios, inspection methods, and usability testing.
UX Design works closely with research by exploring potential solutions through scenarios and conceptual designs, then iteratively creating and reviewing detailed designs with users. Tools of the trade come from the user-centered design process and include app flows, storyboards, wireframes, prototypes, visual comps, and related deliverables.
