Energy Trading Consulting - Consultant
The oil and gas industry is facing unprecedented challenges through volatile energy prices driven by changes to the geopolitical landscape, supply and demand imbalances, and evolving consumption patterns due to global economic development and the energy transition. The opportunity

The purpose of this role is to help position EY for growth within the Oil and Gas sector in a rapidly changing market. As a consultant in our energy trading practice, you will be a key team member, contributing to the growth of our energy trading team and to the development of your peers and yourself. You will be expected to support creation our industry thought leadership, to implement our “Go to Market” strategy, to develop sales collateral and solution material to position EY in the market. You will learn about the various competencies and capabilities within EY. You will be a key player in helping us execute on complex engagements for our clients, assisting them in transforming their businesses as they prepare for the future of the energy industry.

We offer a comprehensive compensation and benefits package where you’ll be rewarded based on your performance and recognized for the value you bring to the business. The base salary range for this job in all geographic locations in the US is $101,500 to $186,000. The salary range for New York City Metro Area, Washington State and California (excluding Sacramento) is $121,700 to $211,300. Individual salaries within those ranges are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge, skills and geography. In addition, our Total Rewards package includes medical and dental coverage, pension and 401(k) plans, and a wide range of paid time off options. Join us in our team-led and leader-enabled hybrid model. Our expectation is for most people in external, client serving roles to work together in person 40-60% of the time over the course of an engagement, project or year. Under our flexible vacation policy, you’ll decide how much vacation time you need based on your own personal circumstances. - Define and document trading front, middle and back-office process design
- Creation of new energy trading organizational and operating models
- Assisting in the creation of energy trading benchmarking, surveys, and market scans for new and emerging technology / value creation opportunities
- Helping our clients select the right solutions though Vendor Assessments & Scoring and Fit/Gap Analysis
- Integration and alignment of cross product and cross region commodity trading processes and technologies
- Functional design and requirements gathering across front office, risk, accounting, settlements, logistics, and scheduling
- Ability to work across various stakeholder groups, including strategy, business, data and technical teams
- Development of energy trading functional and technical roadmaps
- Delivering transformation programs
- Creation of new capabilities in emerging technologies, such as AI, IoT, Data and Anayltics
- Assisting in the development of commercial strategies for new energies

To qualify for the role, you must have:
- A bachelor’s degree in economics, mathematics, finance, or a related field and a minimum of 2 years of work experience
- Preferably some experience working within the oil and gas trading sector
- Technical/Functional ETRM system implementation experience
- Experience in energy commodities and understanding of the commercial aspects of commodity trading, marketing, or procurement
- An understanding of the nuances of executing physical or financial commodity transaction lifecycle
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to liaise with different business capabilities and vendor teams, with a singular focus on ensuring client excellence
- Strategic thinking and solutioning skills to craft a strong value proposition
- Strong understanding of the current solutions in the market and ability to craft a specific point of view for our clients
- Experience in project delivery, SDLC or DevOps
