Optometric Patient Care Technicians perform a variety of tasks to assist the the optometrist in eye exams and corrective procedures. They input patient medical histories and help prepare the patient for the vision examinations and office visits.
Other duties include: assisting front office with appointments, answering the phone lines, scanning documents, cleaning ocular equipment and each exam room. Looking over the doctors schedule.
Individuals interested in becoming an optometric patient care technician should have excellent communication skills, be able to handle hectic schedules, be highly organized and self motivated, rely on their own judgement, and have an excellent attendance record. Also be able to learn quickly and enjoy people.
